World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series to visit Salina Highbanks Speedway in 2017 on October 21
SALINA, Okla. — December 8, 2016 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will visit Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma again in 2017 on Saturday, October 21. The event will mark the fifth straight year and sixth time overall that the series has competed at the high-banked three-eighths-mile just outside of Tulsa.
Daryn Pittman scored a very popular win this past season at Salina Highbanks Speedway. For the native of nearby Owasso, Okla., not only was it his first win at what is the closest track to home he races all year, but it also snapped a three-month winless drought that stretched to 25 races. The win was the second straight for an Oklahoma native at the track, as Shane Stewart was victorious in the 2015 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event at Salina in 2015.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series raced for the first time at Salina Highbanks Speedway in 2011, with Craig Dollansky picking up the win. The veteran driver would win again in 2013 at the high-banked oval. Joey Saldana was victorious at Salina Highbanks Speedway in 2014.
The 2016 campaign was another historic one for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as Schatz won his third straight championship and eighth overall. In the process, the North Dakota native became the first driver in series history to win 20-plus A-Feature events in four consecutive seasons, finishing the year with 25 A-Feature triumphs.
Schatz continues to add to his ever-growing win total with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, which now stands at 229 A-Feature victories. Schatz is third on the all-time list, trailing only Hall of Famers Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell.
A total of 17 drivers won A-Feature events with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in 2016, including full-time series drivers: Daryn Pittman, who finished second in points, David Gravel, who was third in the standings, Brad Sweet, who was fourth in points, Joey Saldana, who was fifth in the final tally, Shane Stewart, who was just behind Saldana, along with Jason Johnson, who was seventh in points, Logan Schuchart, who was eighth in the standings, Jason Sides, who was ninth and reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner Greg Wilson.
