Ransomville Speedway Profile: Anthony Guthrie

Every Friday, the Street Stock division brings the closest racing action in the area. You never can guess who is going to win in this competitive class until the last lap! Sometimes, it is almost a tie! After his father took him to Ransomville Speedway for the first time, Anthony Guthrie from Niagara Falls was hooked and “waited until the opportunity presented itself to get into a car”. Watching last season's races, you would have never guessed that it was his first season in a street stock! We know that Guthrie and his team worked tremendously to compete in what he says, “a field stacked with talent”. After winning the Street Stock Rookie of the Year award, he plans to “capitalize on some of the momentum he picked up last year and find the winners circle and secure a podium finish in the points race” and we can’t wait to see this growth. He and his team would like to thank Behm Automotive and Motorsports, Fox Tire, Airtite Wholesale Building Supplies, Continental Transmission of West Seneca, F. Cimato Top Soil, Alp Steel Corp., and On The Level Racing Chassis for their generous support heading into the 2020 racing season. Other than his sponsors he would like to thank his dad Howard, Jim Behm, and Alex Morris for their help thus far. Guthrie says that they “all bring different things to the table in terms of my racing program and the three of them together really give me the greatest chance of success” and he is “fortunate enough to have so many supportive people.” Guthrie would like to mention that he uploads GoPro video footage of heat and features races along with a verbal recap every week! Check them out if you are interested in seeing a new view of the races!

Q&A with Anthony Guthrie:

What is the greatest piece of advice you have gotten from someone?

“You can’t win anything if you don’t finish. To quote my friend Alex Morris, ‘the only lap that matters is the last lap, be there’. “

What is something you do as a race day tradition?

“I am a creature of habit for sure. On race day, I eat the same lunch which is always half a tuna sandwich. I always have to wear the same shoes, certain shirts, etc. the list goes on. I don’t like anything out of place.”

What ice cream flavor would you be and why?

“Pistachio nut because I think it quietly flies under the radar as a top contender in ice cream flavors. “

How did you get your race car number?

“While I was prepping my first race car for an enduro, I was wearing a Ken Block hat and my father was always fond of Richard Petty (I mean who wasn’t?) so it seemed pretty fitting.”
