Moran Wins I-55 Street Stock Shootout At Pike County

The Pike County Speedway hosted the 4th Annual Street Stock Shootout sanctioned by the Mississippi Street Stock Series, presented by Jackson Industrial Services and the Rogers-Dabbs Performance Parts Crate Racin' USA Street Stock Division, this past weekend. A total of 38 street stocks signed in to compete for the $7,000 to-win payday over the three-day weekend in Magnolia, MS.

The 25-car field was led to the green by Hayden Moran of Richland, MS, and Michael Santangelo of Hanrahan, LA. It didn't take long for Moran to rocket out to the lead by almost three car lengths to lead lap one. Moran quickly caught the tail of the field but could not shake Santangelo, who stayed within striking distance through the opening stages of the race. The first yellow of the night flew on lap 16 with Logan Bright stopped in turn four. The field stacked back up, and Moran led them back to green with 24 laps to go in the $7,000 to-win feature.

A heated battle ensued between Caiden Jackson and Michael Santangelo for the second spot, with Cory Neil Jr. also in the mix. The caution flew once again on lap 20, with multiple cars going around in turn four. Dannon LaCoste, Newell Didone, and Doug Nastasi were caught up in the turn four caution, which regrouped the field with 20 laps to go.

It didn't take long for the yellow to come back out as the field stacked up off turn two, with Cory Neil Jr. getting into TJ Herndon, forcing Bryce Sheasby to spin through the infield to avoid the accident on the back straightaway. Moran led the field back to green at the halfway point, but another quick yellow flew as the heated battle for second between Caiden Jackson and Michael Santangelo resulted in both cars going around in turns three and four. The incident sent Santangelo to the tail, while Jackson stayed in the top three as the field went back to green.

Cory Neil Jr. was next in line to try and run down Moran with less than 15 laps to go. The cautions were not done, as just shy of four laps to go, Santangelo's night got worse when contact with Terry Bright caused serious left-front damage to his 77 car, stacking the field back up for a four-lap shootout for the win. The running order for the final laps of the event was Moran, Neil Jr., Jackson, Herron, and Wing, but Neil Jr. wasn't able to get close enough to move Moran from the lead. This resulted in the Richland, Mississippi driver going flag-to-flag, winning the $7,000 4th Annual I-55 Street Stock Shootout at Pike County Speedway.
