Benedum completes Southern Nationals Series at Tazewell Speedway
Rolling into the final week of Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series competition, Mike Benedum proceeded to Toccoa Raceway (Toccoa, Ga.) on Tuesday evening for the tour's fifth completed event.
Following issues with their rear-end in qualifying, Benedum finished sixth in his B-Main which placed him on the final row for the 40-lap main event. For the $7,553-to-win feature, Mike gained eight positions to finish 13th.
With the field elevated to 28 Late Models at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) on Thursday, Mike nabbed the final transfer spot in his B-Main. For another $7,553 feature, Benedum once again moved forward eight positions to record a 12th-place finish.
For the penultimate event of the summer tour at North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Ga.), Benedum earned a spot in the 53-lap feature after nabbing the final transfer position in his heat race. With another $10,053 paycheck on the line, Benedum battled for a Top-10 position but wound up in 12th when the checkered flag flew.
With Saturday's finale at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) pushed to Sunday evening, Mike was unable to transfer through his heat race and finished second in his B-Main. For the final 53-lap feature of the summer, Benedum recorded a 13th-place outing.
Benedum missed Rookie of the Year honors by just four points to fellow competitor Jordan Koehler. Mike officially finished seventh in series points.
