Felker Riding Wave of Momentum into Premier Micro Sprint Event

Inside Line Promotions – JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 15, 2014) – Andrew Felker has a ton of momentum heading into a marquee event this weekend.

Felker has recorded three podium finishes in his last four races and 14 top 10s in his last 16 events going into the inaugural Outlaw Nationals this Thursday through Saturday at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.

“I definitely have confidence going into it,” he said. “I grew up running there for years. I have plenty of laps there.”

Felker will pilot a micro sprint for longtime sponsor Mark Lowe, who owns MelMark Pipe and Supply, during the event that pays $13,000 to win for any driver who lives outside of Oklahoma.

“It’s definitely cool seeing this big of a show,” Felker said. “It’s a big deal. This is the biggest micro show I’ve ran.”

Felker is coming off a pair of top 10s last weekend during the final POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series doubleheader of the year.

He rallied from seventh to fourth place during his heat race each night, which lined him up in the fifth row for the 30-lap feature both nights.

Felker started ninth during the main event on Friday at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill.

“On Friday the track started taking rubber on the top in turns three and four just before the feature started,” he said. “I went to the bottom while everyone was battling for the top. I got up to fifth and was racing for third and fourth. On the restarts I’d just roll the bottom around the tires and I was making ground as the guys were fighting for position on the top. Once it locked down I fell back to eighth or ninth. Then I had to hop back to the top.”

Felker ended with a seventh-place result.

He capped the weekend on Saturday at Jacksonville Speedway, where he recorded his 11th top five of the season.

“I jumped up to fifth or sixth pretty quick in the feature,” he said. “About midrace I finally got a good rhythm running the top in turn one and turning it down to come off the bottom of turn two. In turns three and four I was running just off the cushion on entry and then catching the cushion on exit.”

Felker competed for a top-five position throughout the majority of the race before he made a late bid for a podium finish.

“About the last six or seven laps I battled with Tanner Thorson,” he said. “I felt like we had something for the leader. I just ran out of laps.”

Felker’s third-place result secured a third-place finish in the POWRi championship standings.
