Blurton Lands Chili Bowl Nationals Opportunity Following Stout Season
Inside Line Promotions – GREAT BEND, Kan. (Nov. 30, 2015) – Zach Blurton has found an opportunity to compete during the 30th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals.
Thanks to sponsorship from Midwest Ag Professionals Inc., Blurton will drive for Don Droud Jr. during the premier midget event, which is held Jan. 12-16 at Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.
“Before I started racing I was helping on the Ochs car with Don driving for them,” he said. “I grew a relationship with him and that’s how everything started.”
Blurton, who is coming off a career-best season with three wins and his first sprint car championship, made his midget debut during the Chili Bowl in 2014. The team finished in a C Main during preliminary competition and in an I Main during the finale.
“It was the first time they ran that car at the Chili Bowl so there was a lot of testing and trying to figure out what works,” he said. “I went into it blind never running a midget before. It didn’t go great, but it didn’t go bad either.
“The goal next year is to definitely do better. I think I’ll be more comfortable in it. Just the Chili Bowl itself is a lot of pressure. There’s all those people and it seems like they’re right in your face. Honestly, I would feel 100 percent happy if I could make it in the A Main or a solid finish in a B Main during a preliminary night.”
Blurton added that the team is seeking additional marketing partners to help offset the costs of tackling the Chili Bowl.
“I want to thank Don for giving me another opportunity to drive for him,” he said. “We’re looking for additional partners. For only $100 a person or company will get a logo on the car with more money meaning a bigger logo.”
