Carson McCarl – Kicking It Off at I-80!

(Bill W) April 5, 2012 – Last year’s youngest champion in Knoxville Raceway history will be making the step up to a 360 sprint car this season. Carson McCarl will embark on his sophomore campaign in a sprinter this Friday and Saturday night as the ASCS-Midwest series invades the I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska. The Altoona, Iowa 17 year old was able to get a bit of experience in the 360 last Fall at the Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin, and at the Kasson Speedway in Kasson, Minnesota.

The big banked 4/10-mile oval waits this weekend, and Carson is ready. “I’m just really excited to get the season going,” he says. “Especially a season where we’re moving up to the 360’s. I-80’s a pretty cool track and I’ve always wanted to race there. It’s really wide and fast.”

Last season, Carson used three wins to capture the 305 sprint car championship at the Knoxville Raceway half-mile. “Knoxville is really fast. I-80 isn’t as big, but now I’m in the 360, so there is going to be a little more power,” he says. “I was glad to get my feet wet last Fall with the 360 and run a couple of shows.”

Don’t expect the young gun to be timid on the high banks. “I think we’ll be good there,” he says. “I’m not going to let anything back. I’m going to go out there and give it my all. It may be a long shot to get the win, but I’m not going to be lollygagging or putting around the bottom, I can tell you that!”

Carson did get a little action in January at the Tulsa Shootout. “Tulsa was fun,” he says. “We had our share of troubles, but we finally got it going at the end. We missed a transfer to the A from the back of the B by a couple of inches, but it was fun.”

New ownership makes things run smoother as well. “I’d really like to thank Gary Dean,” says Carson. “He’s my car owner this year. Of course, the Berryhill’s (AmericashAdvance.com) help out a ton too, and they are the reason I’m running 360’s this year.”

Carson plans to mix in a number of tracks this season, as he improves his skills with the 360.
