Inside Line Promotions – CHATHAM, La. (June 16, 2020) – Greg Wilson capped the Cometic Gasket Thunder Through the Plains presented by Hercules Tires with a ninth-place outing on Sunday at Chatham Speedway.

“The last night was our best night from start to finish,” he said. “That’s what I was hoping for. Obviously I wanted our results to be better. We got in a couple of rubber down situations when we had a good car and there wasn’t a lot of passing. We also got taken out on the first lap one night and came back to 12th. We had a really good car that night. It definitely wasn’t a horrible last five days, but I felt like our results didn’t show the progress we were making. I left Sunday feeling like our race car felt the same all night long and we didn’t have to do a lot to it, which is a good sign.”

Wilson placed eighth in the Thunder Through the Plains standings after producing a more consistent second half to the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 event that featured eight races in 10 days.

Wilson’s Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics, DNC Hydraulics and Gear Off Road sponsored team placed 15th at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, last Wednesday. Wilson charged from 19th to 10th to earn the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars the ensuing night at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla. An opening-lap crash forced Wilson to rally from the back of the field to a 12th-place result on Friday at Monarch Motor Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas. Wilson then placed 16th at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, on Saturday before the Thunder Through the Plains concluded with another top 10 on Sunday.

“We were doing things to the race car that I’ve never been taught,” he said. “It looks like some of the stuff I should have been paying attention to for a while. At Southern Oklahoma Speedway I didn’t really know what to do so we didn’t do anything. Normally you change your car throughout the night. We changed nothing from the heat to the feature and it worked. If you roll ahead to LoneStar Speedway I panicked and did some of the stuff I used to do and we struggled again.

“The one thing I’m learning quickly without having a crew chief and struggling for four years since they made the last tire change, the things I’ve been taught are old school. You have to think outside the box. We’re having better results when I do it that way.”

Wilson currently ranks ninth in the All Star championship standings.

The All Stars resume competition June 24 at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., before heading to Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn., on June 27-28.
