Borden Rips to Skagit Speedway Win!
Alger, WA - One week before The Greatest Show on Dirt comes to town, Devin Borden put on a great show of his own, running hard to a win at Skagit Speedway on Saturday night. On a night where Eric Turner, Rick Smith and Howard Vos also won features, 220+ kids also walked away winners courtesy the first ever Skagit Speedway Bicycle Giveaway.
Trevor Cook led the initial lap of the Budweiser 360 Sprints main event, but Borden came storming past him on lap two of the feature in what was the race winning pass. After setting quick time on the night, Borden maintained that speed all through the feature, carving up slower traffic en route to his second Skagit Speedway win of the year, fifth total on the season in Sprint Cars and Sixth total with an early season win in Micros. Cook would finish a career best second in 360 action with JJ Hickle collecting third. The three heat races were won by Eric Fisher, Brock Lemley and Luke Didiuk.
Eric Turner collected his first career win in a Sprint Car with a victory in the 25 lap Cook road Shell Sportsman Sprint A Main. Cory Swatzina controlled most of the main event but with traffic looming, Turner made his move, diving to the inside of Swatzina in turn three on lap 19. The two made contact with Turner coming through in the top spot and in just six short laps later, Eric found himself in victory lane. Jayme Barnes came through in second place with Chase Goetz third. Goetz and Bill Rude won heats. Sean Johnson was fast time.
The brothers Smith went to war again in the Skagit Aggregates Modifieds, with brother Rick taking his first feature win of the year. While Kevin finished second and closed on Rick multiple times, Rick ran 25 of the most consistent laps he’d run all year in scoring a popular victory. Craig Moore rounded out the podium. Kevin and Craig won the two heats.
Howard Vos drove a new (to him) car to the win in the Outlaw Tuners. Vos jumped aboard the #23 Mazda Miata which has had loads of success this year and led the final eight laps of the main. Second and third were Jon Gunderson and Jon Edwards. Heat wins went to Vos and Clint Meins.
