Sarver, PA (September 17, 2022) Lernerville Speedway welcomed the Ti22 Performance FAST Sprint Cars for the $10,000 to-win ˜Commonwealth Clash and the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Sportsman Modifieds on Saturday, September 17. Fans were entertained by the 41 FAST Sprint Cars that were signed in for the $1,000 to-start ˜Commonwealth Clash and a solid field of 19 RUSH Modifieds.
As the Ti22 Performance FAST Sprint Cars rolled out on to ˜The Action Track for the 35-lap, $10,000 to-win ˜Commonwealth Clash, it was Scotty Thiel and Aaron Reutzel who led the star-studded field to the green flag with Reutzel taking the lead on the opening lap. Reutzel set a torrid pace around Lernerville Speedway, but Theil was able to stay close as the two entered lapped traffic on lap 7. While the two methodically maneuvered through lapped traffic, Reutzel was able to keep a safe distance from the second-place car of Thiel. The pace was slowed on lap 11 for the spun car of Ryan Smith who came to a stop in turn four while running in the fifth position. When racing resumed it was still Reutzel at the helm with Thiel, Cale Thomas, Sye Lynch, and Travis Philo in the top-five while Reutzel pulled away from the field. By lap 15 the leader had a 1.9 second lead as they entered lapped traffic which allowed the #73 car of Thiel to close the gap to about one second on lap 18. Reutzel worked lapped traffic masterfully while blasting the Lernerville cushion and again pulled away to close to a four second lead over the second-place car of Cale Thomas who got by Thiel on lap 25. Reutzel was well on his way to victory until a caution on lap 34 for the slowed car of Devon Borden brought out the caution to set up a one lap dash to the checkers. Reutzel torched the field off the restart and powered his way across the finish line, 1.8 seconds ahead of Thiel who found his way around Thomas to regain the runner-up spot. Thomas came home third with Lynch in fourth and Zach Hampton rounding out the top-five finishers. Brandon Spithaler came home sixth and the last car on the lead lap with Travis Philo in seventh, A.J. Flick in eighth, ninth was Dan Shetler while Skylar Gee rounded out the top-ten.
˜Man, that first group of lapped traffic was pretty hairy, Reutzel said in Terry Bowser Excavating Victory Lane, ˜guys were changing lanes, didnt know I was there but, it was pretty treacherous if you got up over the cushion and one guy forced me up there and I biked up and about put it in the fence. I figured I needed to quit being conservative and go, I didnt know if he (second place) was running the bottom or top so I went as hard as I could, and it actually made the car better. I got through lapped traffic a lot better, some (lapped cars) were just, not in my way and I was able to get by others quick. All-in-all it was a great night, things are going great with our new Toyota engine, I couldnt be more proud of everyone involved with the Toyota engine. Its a big team effort and I couldnt be more proud to be in the drivers seat.
Bill Cunningham and Cole Edwards lead the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Sportsman Modifieds to the green flag for their 20-lap feature with third starting Garrett Krummert making his way past the two front row starters to lead the events first lap. By lap 5, the top-two of Krummert and fifth place starter Ayden Cipriano pulled away from the field by over 2 seconds. Cipriano began to apply pressure on Krummert on lap 7 and stayed right on the leaders rear bumper throughout most of the event. After cautions on laps 9 and 15 slowed the field, Krummert still led but with Cipriano no more than three car-lengths back at any given moment. On lap 18, Cipriano dashed to the bottom of turns three and four and slid up in front of Krummert to take the lead. Cipriano led the remaining two laps to capture his first career Lernerville Speedway win.
˜I just knew I had to throw it in there and give it all I got in those final few laps, Cipriano said in Terry Bowser Excavating Victory Lane. ˜He (Krummert) had a really good car and ran a really good race, I think we ran super clean throughout the whole race, Im just glad I was able to pull through in this one. This feels awesome, thats all I got to say.
