By Jim Balentine (Mercer, PA)
This Saturday, July 19, 2025, Michaels Mercer Raceway presented by Sunbelt Rentals will honor the Michaels family, who are in their 6th year of their 2nd tenure of ownership at the historic speedway, with the BRP Modified Tour paying $3000 to win.
Our regular divisions, the IMCA Racesaver 305 Sprints, Top Shelf Trucking DIRT 602 Crate Sportsman, and the Kings Forestry Products SCDRA Mini Stocks, will also highlight the card.
The Michaels family has been involved in racing since the 1970s, with patriarch Howard owning cars that ran at Mercer throughout the years. Howard and the family were instrumental in rebuilding the race track in 1994 after it was left dormant following the 1989 racing season. They sold the track after the 1996 season, and son Harold Michaels competed in the small block modified/big block modified division for many years.
After the Michaels family sold the track for the 1997 season to Gary Butch and his family, both Howard Michaels and his sons, Howard Jr. and Harold, passed away. Harold passed away in 2002; Howard Sr. passed away in June 2007 following a motor vehicle accident; and Howard E. Michaels passed away in April 2019. In 2019, Howard’s son Ed, along with his brother Earl, repurchased the facility and continues the rich tradition at the historic speedway.
Rain checks from May 17th will be honored for this event.
Grandstand admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and free for children 13 and under. Pit passes are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors, and $30 for kids 10 and under.
Pit gates will open at 4 PM, grandstands will open at 5 PM, hot laps will begin at 6:15 PM, and the first heat will take the green at 7 PM.
All drivers must have working raceivers and use the red AMB Transponder or yellow transponder system.
Concessions will be open, and coolers must fit between the bleachers with no glass. Alcohol is permitted, and lawn chair seating is permitted in the grassy area by the fence. We are a cash or credit facility at all locations.
