Chico, CA…Fresh off a double header last weekend the battle for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour championship marches on and pays a visit to Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway this Saturday for the $4,000-to-win “Tyler Wolf Memorial.
When 20-year Tyler Wolf lost his life at Calistoga Speedway in 2012 it was one of the darkest days in recent memory for the California racing scene. The Redding native had captured the Silver Dollar Speedway track title one year prior and was well liked throughout the pit area.
The following season saw Silver Dollar Speedway host the inaugural Tyler Wolf Memorial and for the first on Saturday, it will be sanctioned by the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards. The night of racing is the first of two SCCT appearances this year at the famed bullring.
Silver Dollar Speedway historian Elijah Jones is once again collecting individual lap money for the 35-lap feature. The leader gets $50, second place $30 and third place receives $20 per lap in the main event. If you would like to purchase a lap please contact Elijah via Direct Message on Facebook or text at 530-966-6661.
Demo Mittry of Mittry Construction has offered up an additional $1,000 to the A-main winner on Saturday. Air One HVAC Systems has also added an extra $500-to-win the A-main, $200 for fast time, $100 to the hard charger, $100 to the B-main victor and $100 to the final finisher. With the extra cash it boosts the A-main to a minimum of $4,000-to-win plus lap money.
The track will also host a non-sanctioned Winged 360 Sprint Car event this Friday to launch the festivities. Camping is available for the double header weekend. Please call (530) 966-4020 to reserve a spot.
“The entire staff of SLC Promotions is really looking forward to this weekend’s events, said long-time Announcer, PR Director and championship winning wiffle ball player Troy Hennig. “It’s always special to honor our forever champion Tyler Wolf and adding in the SCCT Winged 360s this year gives it that extra bit of gusto. We hope to see an amazing field of cars and lots of people in the grandstands for what should be an outstanding two nights of racing.
Fremont’s Shane Golobic sits atop the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards standings heading into the Tyler Wolf Memorial. The 30-year-old is always one of the more consistent racers in California and has driven to a pair of wins thus far in SCCT action, along with top-five efforts in all but two events.
Two-time and defending Tyler Wolf Memorial winner Andy Forsberg goes into Chico ranking second in the standings and hopes to pick up his first SCCT win of the season. The multi-time Silver Dollar Speedway track champ is routinely one of the drivers to beat at the quarter-mile. Reigning Sprint Car Challenge Tour champion Ryan Robinson, last season’s Rookie of the Year Isaiah Vasquez and Placerville’s Shane Hopkins complete the top-five in points with six races complete.
Rounding out the top-10 in the SCCT standings are Modesto’s Tony Gomes, 2019 Tyler Wolf Memorial winner Sean Becker, Garth Moore Insurance Rookie of the Year contender Landon Brooks, Hanford’s DJ Netto and Lemoore youngster Gauge Garcia. A strong and diverse field of Winged 360 Sprint Cars are expected to tackle the SLC Promotions venue on Saturday.
