Capacity Crowd Enjoys Family Fun on July 4th

Chico, CA (July 4, 2019) …. A capacity crowd witnessed a great show featuring auto racing and fireworks on Thursday night, July 4th, at the world-famous Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Over 60 race cars lined the pit area. Sean Becker picked up his 63rd career main event win in the sprint car division. Kyle Allen won his fifth consecutive Hobby Stock main event. Matt Micheli won his third consecutive Street Stock main event. Micheli also grabbed the IMCA Sport Modified win.
The 360-winged sprint car main event was electrifying. Jake Haulot jumped out to the early lead. On lap three Michael Ing took the top spot. Ing led the next 11 laps until he drifted off the edge of turn three. This opened the door for sixth place starting Sean Becker. Becker took the lead of the event and never looked back. Moving into second at the time was Brad Bumgarner. Ing drifted back to fifth but never gave up and began to charge back towards the front. Alec Justeson was impressive all night. He moved into the second spot late in the race. Yet, Ing used the high line to pass Bumgarner and Justeson for second. On lap 28, Ron LaPlant slowed in turn four. This closed back up the field for the final restart of the night. Becker was cool, calm and collected and went on to lead the final two laps to pick up his 63rd career win at Silver Dollar Speedway. He got the win driving the No. 63 AFEX Graphics/ Ivan and Jane Worden sprint car. The win puts him in a tie with Jonathan Allard for second all-time at the speedway. Ing finished second. Bumgarner came home third. Justeson drove a great race to finish fourth. Chelsea Blevins moved up quite a bit and finished fifth.
Becker was the fastest qualifier and picked up $100 from Paul Olmstead Plastering. Haulot and Billy Wallace each won an eight-lap heat race. Ing won the eight-lap fast dash.
The Speedway would like to thank Blevins, Ing and Kyle Offill for participating in tonight’s autograph session.
Matt Micheli led all 20-laps to win the street stock feature. Chasing him for most of those laps was Grass Valley masher Brent Lawrence. The top two had a great battle for the top spot until lap 15 when Lawrence got loose in turn four and lost a lot of ground to Micheli. Both Micheli and Lawrence are true iron men of the sport as they race both tracks all the time. Richard Workman charged up to a solid third place finish. Manny Avilla came home fourth. Gary Newman was fifth. Cabinets Plus sponsored a $100 hard charger award in the main event. Avilla won the first heat race. Micheli won the second heat race.
Fourth place starting Matt Micheli took the lead on lap three and went on to win the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Pole sitter Phil Marino and eighth place starting Phillip Shelby swapped second place quite a few times. In the end Marino was able to hold off Shelby. Fourth went to Scott Savell. Mike Ficklin came home fifth. The main event featured a lot of close side-by-side racing. Savell won the first eight lap heat. Micheli grabbed the win in heat two.
The Hobby Stock main event thrilled the crowd. Wes Smock jumped out to the early lead. Smock led until lap 13. Pole sitter Keith Ross was able to pass Smock for the top spot. A lap later, sixth place starting Kyle Allen passed Smock for second. With three laps to go, Allen got to the side of Ross and passed him for the lead. Allen would officially lead the final two laps for the win. Give Ross credit as he hung in there and gave Allen a battle. Smock crossed the line third but failed a post-race tech inspection and was disqualified. This moved Zach Lindgren into third. Toby Merrifield finished fourth. Robert Warf was credited with a fifth-place finish. Kyle Allen, Kevin Burns and Carl Pavlik each won heat races tonight.
We are back at it on July 12th with Dollar Night admission for the fans.
