Press Release-For Immediate Release
NASCAR Star and Two-Time Gold Cup Champion Kyle Larson Returns to Silver Dollar Speedway
(Chico, CA 8-30-18...Elk Grove’s Kyle Larson has just announced he will be racing the Thursday night portion of the Gold Cup Race of Champions. Larson, the two-time Gold Cup Champion in 2011 and 2012, makes his first start at Silver Dollar Speedway since September 7, 2013. Larson will drive a Paul Silva owned winged 360 sprint car and participate in the first annual 360 Platinum Cup. Larson will also be competing Monday, September 3rd and Tuesday September 4th, at the Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase at Cycleland Speedway.
“Getting a NASCAR star like Kyle to come back and race where he grew up racing is not only huge for the fans of local racing but shows what kind of person he is, said Lowell Moural- Cycleland Speedway Promoter. “He still remembers where he came from and that’s what makes him so special on and off the track.
Larson currently competes full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Chip Ganassi Racing. Larson is currently ninth in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup points.
Larson will be no stranger to the new 360 Platinum Cup format. During this night we will use the Cycleland Speedway format. Moural has used this format successfully for many years at his track and drivers like Brad Sweet, Sean Becker, Mason Moore and Kyle Larson have endorsed it over the course of their careers. “We wanted to add a twist to this race and felt that the Cycleland format would work great on this night, said Moural. “We wanted to give the fans of sprint car racing something unique during their time at the Gold Cup.
The Cycleland format starts off with individual qualifying. Once qualifying is completed, the fastest six qualifiers move directly to what’s called a dash/fast heat. These six drivers will be locked into the feature event. The rest of the drivers will be placed in corresponding heat races and start straight up on their qualifying times. Seventh fastest gets the pole position of heat one. Eighth quick pole position of heat two and so forth. Winners of the heat races get to start in the first two rows of that night’s main event. The dash cars will start behind the heat race winners in the main event. After the heat races are completed, it is important how you finish those races because qualifying times are thrown out. You will be lined up in the A main or B main based on how you finish the heat races. In example, the first non-transfer in heat one would start pole position of the B main. The format will be thoroughly explained at the drivers meeting.
Menne Hay Ranch Inc/Withrows Motorsports have come on board to sponsor the Dash/Fast Heat. There will be a $1,300 purse for the dash. The winner receives $500, second $300 and third $200. Fourth through sixth will earn $100 each.
The main event winner will receive $2500 with a guaranteed $400 to start the feature event.
Joining the 360 Platinum Cup on Thursday night is the USAC/CRA sprint cars. This will serve as the one and only race of the season for the popular traditional non-wing traveling series at Silver Dollar Speedway.
Many activities for the 65th Gold Cup are planned to include the Black Light party on Thursday, the Clyde Lamar Golf Tournament on Friday, and the world-famous Chili Feed and Miss Gold Cup Bikini contest. Beginning on August 15th fans purchasing both Friday and Saturday night race tickets will receive a free Chili Feed ticket.
The Gold Cup features 4 full nights of racing featuring the Civil War Sprints and Hunt Magneto Wingless series on Wednesday followed by the USAC/CRA show on Thursday with the all new 360 Platinum Cup added this year. Friday and Saturday the barnstorming World of Outlaws hit the ¼ clay oval this year joined by the NorCal Dwarf cars. Details are available at 530-350-7275 or at www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
