Dash for Cash Unveiled for David Tarter Memorial
CHICO, CA (6-11-17) -Â There are some special things happening for the 5th Annual David Tarter Memorial at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, June 16th. First off, it is an honor to pay tribute to a man who loved not only sprint car racing but his hometown track Silver Dollar Speedway. Unfortunately, we lost David on June 8th, 2012 during a freak pit accident that shocked our racing community. But like any tight knit family, we all rallied behind the family and turned this tragedy into an opportunity for us to recognize and remember our fallen friend David Tarter.
With support from family and sponsors, the 410-winged sprint car main event will pay a staggering $3500 to win. "That is a big pay day and a great honor for any of the major 410-sprint car teams in California to win David's race," said sprint car business manager Gary Thomas. "It wouldn't make much sense to me if 410-winged sprint car drivers pass on such a fantastic opportunity."
In years past the emphasis has been focused on the 410-winged sprint cars. However, this year the family wants to offer a bonus to any 360 winged drivers and teams willing to come support the race. The highest finishing 360 sprint car in the main event will receive an extra $500. The second highest finishing 360 sprint car finisher will receive an extra $250.
Steve and Scott Van Den Broeke represent Autism Awareness and are going to contribute a handsome cash incentive for an old school style trophy dash. The dash will feature the four fastest qualifiers in a three lap, fully inverted format. The dash will take place after the heat races. The winner of the dash will receive $300, second $200, third $100 and fourth $50. To try and make it a "show", these four drivers will be introduced on the front stretch and then toss signed frisbee's into the grandstand. Each frisbee will have a free grandstand admission attached and signed individually by the four drivers in the race. The fan that catches the frisbee will be invited onto the front stretch and that fan will receive $50 cash.
Sprint car heat race winners will receive a $50 gift certificate to Pit Stop USA. Withrow's Motorsports, Hoosier Tire, RCM Designs, Randy V Racing and Tarter Racing are all involved in offering or securing more prizes for the event.
This night of extra money and incentives are all not geared towards just the sprint car drivers and teams. Proceeds gathered from the event help The Enloe Foundation, set up to provide comfort items to children at Enloe Hospital. The David Tarter Foundation has been set up the last few years to help other organizations such as the N.A.R.C Benevolent Fund that assists racers and crew members in times of need.
A big part of this race involves you the fan. Most of the money raised on this night is accumulated by the selling and buying of the annual David Tarter Memorial t-shirts and sweatshirts. The family also has gathered some amazing raffle items. The top one is always a custom-made helmet by Shell Shock that will garner a separate raffle. The Tarter family will once again set up a table near the pit gate entrance for the competitors to purchase t-shirts and raffle items. At around 5:30 PM the family will then move to inside the main grandstands and set up a booth for the raffle prizes and merchandise sales.
The fifth annual David Tarter Memorial is a spectacle you will not want to miss. Adult general admission into the main grandstand is $14.00, juniors and seniors $12.00, kids $6.00 and children 5 and under are Free. Pit gate opens at 4 PM. Front grandstand opens at 6 PM. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7 PM. Also on the docket is the wingless sprints, economy sprints and midget lites. For more information please visit www.silverdollarspeedway.com
