Final Point Race of Season This Friday Night

Final Point Race of Season This Friday Night

CHICO, CA (8-21-16) - And then there was one. The final Friday night Chuck Patterson Dodge Friday night point championship is upon us. Five track champions will be crowned once the final checkered flag is waived. Numerous story lines are on display and it will be interesting to watch them play out in front of our eyes this Friday night, August 26th. Most of the main event winners during this night will win the coveted 6ft. tall Pepsi trophy. Point race #15 is presented by Cherry St. Mini Storage and features 410 winged sprint cars, street stocks, hobby stocks, wingless sprints and IMCA Sport Mods.

Friday night general admission is $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors and juniors. Children ages 6 - 11 are $6.00 while kids five and under are free. Pit gate opens at 4 PM with the front gate opening at 6 PM. Winged sprint car qualifying is scheduled for 6:30 PM.

Sean Becker leads the 410 winged sprint cars into this final night of point racing. Becker has won four consecutive driving titles at Chico and holds a comfortable 16-point edge over Andy Forsberg. If Becker holds on to secure the title, it will give him a total of six 410 winged sprint car championships. Shane Scott has the most sprint car championships with seven. Mason Moore has continued to climb the point ladder and now sits in the third spot. He holds a three point edge over rookie driver Kalib Henry. Michael Ing sits in the fifth spot overall. Henry is the top rated rookie driver and holds a large advantage over fellow rookie drivers Seth Nunes and Braedon Enos.

Terry Schank Jr. is well on his way to secure his fourth driving championship at Chico in the wingless sprint division. Schank holds a 42-point advantage over Angelique Bell. Yet, the real battle is between drivers sitting in the second through fourth spots. Bell leads Brent Steck by just three points for the second spot. Jeremy Wilson is four points back of Steck and seven behind Bell.

Todd Cooper sits in control of the IMCA Sport Mods point battle. Cooper has a 16-point lead over Jerry Bartlett. There is another decent gap in points back to Mike Merritt in third. However, Merritt only has a three point edge over Brian Cooper. A large field of cars is expected to compete for the big Pepsi trophy.

Brian Compton needs to just take the green flag during the Hobby Stock main event and he will win his third track championship. Compton has dominated the racing season with six main event wins in seven starts.

The street stock championship is where the real chase is. Shawn Smith holds a slim four point edge over Phillip Shelby. Shelby won this past Friday night and now has four wins in seven main event starts this season. Smith is still searching for his first win but has shown the consistency to be a champion by finishing all seven main events in the top ten. Brent Lawrence has an outside chance of winning the championship but being 16-points behind will be a tough mountain to climb. Track veterans Gary Newman and Mike Slightom are hanging on to finish in the top five.
