Shark Sighting at Chico
CHICO, CA (6-3-16) -Â Roseville's Sean Becker won a thrilling 25-lap sprint car main event Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. It was the first time in 2016 that Becker had parked the Menne Motorsports/Cherry St. Mini Storage #75 in victory lane at Chico. The crowd was treated to a world class main event featuring numerous lead changes and a last lap pass for the win. DJ Netto drove out to the early lead but before lap six was completed he drifted off turn one and came to a stop. Becker emerged as the new leader with Cory Eliason chasing him and a hard charging Jonathan Allard in third. As laps wore down, Elisason and Allard seemed to be a bit quicker than Becker. On lap 19 Becker was slowed by a car he was trying to put down one lap. This allowed Eliason to steal the lead. Becker didn't give up and began to reel back in Eliason. On lap 23 Eliason chose the high side entering turn three. As he did, a slower car slid up in front of him allowing the bottom to open up. Becker was in the right place at the right time and took back the lead as he crossed under the white flag. Becker cruised the final quarter-mile of the race to earn the popular win. Elaison finished second followed by Allard in third. Andy Forsberg set the nights fastest time and brought the #92 home fourth. Willie Croft drove a solid race and finished fifth. Jason Statler drove from 17th starting spot all the way up to eighth. Richard Brace Jr. went from the 19th starting spot and finished 9th. Cody Hodgson won the 12-lap B main. Heat race winners included Sean Watts, Bud Kaeding and Netto.
Terry Schank Jr. won his third main event of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway. He battled his rival Tony Richards for the majority of the event. Richard's car fell ill with a few laps to go and he fell back to a sixth place finish. Troy DeGaton came across the finish line in second spot and drove a great race. Brent Steck had one of his better career finishes and came home in the third spot. Korey Combs and Jeremy Wilson rounded out the top five.
Jerry Bartlett visited his favorite place, victory lane, after the 20 lap IMCA Sport Mod main event. The multi-talented and self-proclaimed most handsome man in dirt modified racing led most of the main event in securing the popular win. Todd Cooper suffered an early race spin but rebounded to finish second. Third went to Mike Merritt. Alan Furuta and Willie Horn Jr. round out the top five. Clinton Earl and Damian Merritt each won their 8-lap heat races.
Corey Hall was spectacular in winning the street stock feature event. Hall was able to fend off Chris Warner. The drivers in the street stocks should be commended for their close tight knit racing. Shawn Smith drove a smart race and finished third. Phil Marino was competitive all night and finished fourth. Fifth place went to Brent Lawrence. Hall and Warner each won their respective heat race.
Dennis Wood and Courtney Dozier might have put on the greatest two car battle in the history of the speedway. The super stocks made their lone appearance of the year a memorable one as those two raced side by side for almost the entire 15 laps. In the end it was Wood who captured the win. While Dozier finished second the crowd applauded him just as if he won the event. Brent Lawrence won the lone heat race.
