Racing enthusiast Rich Brisco to attend his 50th consecutive Gold Cup Race of Champions
CHICO, CA (9-2-15) -Â When it comes milestones Sacramento, California based Sprint Car fan Rich Brisco will certainly hit one this year when the Gold Cup Race of Champions goes green at the Silver Dollar Speedway on September 9, 10, 11 & 12.
Since originally beginning in Sacramento at Hughes Stadium & West Capital Raceway, and then re-locating to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, the Gold Cup Race of Champions has been a cornerstone in California.
The event has always been one of the major showcases of motorsports & fun on the west coast, with this years edition being the 62nd annual presentation. From a historical perspective few events run deeper in Northern California than the Gold Cup and this season is shaping up to be one of the biggest in years.
When Rich Brisco went to his first Gold Cup, the race was just starting out in its early stages and few could have thought it would grow to what it is today. Through the years Brisco has been an overwhelming supporter of the Gold Cup and this season will amazingly mark his 50th straight occasion of attending the prestigious show. You can also find him & long-time friend Rick Westervelt (aka Korea) during most Friday night shows at Silver Dollar Speedway.
Another long-time friend of Brisco, Tom Norberg, spoke about his passion & love for the Gold Cup Race of Champions, as well as Silver Dollar Speedway. If there has been one constant in Richs life it has been and always will be, his beloved Silver Dollar Speedway & the Gold Cup. I have seen him look like death warmed over from being sick, but he was still there. Rich has even quit a job, because they wouldnt give him time off for the Gold Cup one year. Its amazing to think it will be his 50th consecutive. He has all the programs from past Gold Cups as well and has such a huge passion for the event.
King of the West Sprint Car Series Announcer & PR Director Gary Thomas also says of Brisco, Some of my fondest memories growing up at the Gold Cup were camping with Rich Brisco, Tom Norberg, Korea & some of our other friends out front by the road as you drove in. Listening to stories Rich has from past Gold Cups is always something I remembered as well. We all love the Gold Cup, but I can honestly say its hard to find a bigger fan of the race than Rich. I know he has busted his tail to get to this event every year no matter what and to make it 50 straight years is something special.
If you are out & about at the Gold Cup and want to do a little bench racing be sure to look Brisco up. He is always good for a story or two and who knows, you may even learn something about the Gold Cup that you didnt know!
