Tarter Memorial Highlights Double Header Weekend of Racing

CHICO, CA (6-3-15) - It has been too long. After a month hiatus, the sweet sounds of the powerful 410 sprint car engines return for two nights of racing this weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway. On Friday night Chuck Patterson Dodge of Chico along with OReilly Auto Parts, Keller Williams, Heather Cooper and Summit Funding present point race # 7. Five divisions of cars will hit the clay oval speedway led by the return of the 410 winged sprint cars. Joining the sprint cars are the IMCA dirt modifieds, limited late models, hobby stocks and mini stocks.

This Friday night, June 5th, the pit gate for the competitors will open at 4 PM. The front gate for the fans will open at 6 PM. Racing is slated to start at 7 PM. Adult general admission is $13.00, juniors and seniors are $11.00, kids $6.00 and under five are free.

On Saturday night the emotional and popular David Tarter Memorial returns for the third consecutive year featuring the best winged 410 sprint car drivers on the West Coast. The King of the West series returns for the second and final Chico stop of the year. Nearly 30 championship caliber KWS drivers are expected. KWS announcer Gary Thomas said, This has been the best year of racing we have seen a long time. The series boast a nice mixer of veteran drivers going against a lot of young lions. This Saturday night is a must see event! Joining the KWS will be the perfect companion division; the economy winged sprint cars.

The pit gate will open at 3 PM for the David Tarter Memorial event. The front grandstand gate will open at 5 PM. Qualifying is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM with racing to follow. Adult general admission is $20.00. Juniors are $15.00, children $6.00 and five and under are free.

Chicos David Tarter was as popular of a kid and driver as maybe any other sprint car driver at the Silver Dollar Speedway. His on track driving ability and his off track tenacity in acquiring whatever it took to race showed us all what a true champion he was. Unfortunately we lost David in a freak pit area mishap. Yet, his parents, family and friends have stood together and made sure his legacy will always be remembered.

Former King of the West Series champion Kyle Larson has also donated $500 to the nights fast time qualifier on Saturday. The evening will be capped with a 35-lap main event, in honor of Tarters race car number. The Tarter family will be selling commemorative T-Shirts, Sweatshirts & Decals during the weekend. Theyll also be raffling off a helmet & two embroidered blankets, with proceeds going to the Enloe Foundation, which provides comfort items to children served by Enloe Medical Center, as well as the Northern Auto Racing Club Benevolent Fund, which uses 100% of the funds raised to support the families of injured drivers, crew members and officials running Sprint Car Series in California.

We look forward to seeing familiar faces and old friends this Friday and Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. There is nothing more American than grass roots dirt track racing. Bring a friend, neighbor or family member this weekend. Then sit back, relax and remember our fallen hero David Tarter.
