Rico Abreu Continues California Hot Streak

CHICO, CA (3-27-15) - Rico Abreu held off fierce charges from both Andy Forsberg and Sean Becker to pick up the popular victory at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Rico started from the pole and was able to secure his sixth win at the Speedway. Also collecting Main Event wins during Points Race #1 were Justin Henry in the Economy Sprint Class, Terry Schank Jr. in the Wingless division, and Joe Frock picked up the win in the Dwarf Cars.

At the drop of the Green Flag for the 360 Sprint Cars Rico Abreu would get the advantage, but by lap two he had company at the front. Andy Forsberg was wheeling around the outside of the racetrack and was able to pass Rico on the high scary side out of turn number two. The two drivers then duked it out until disaster struck for Forsberg on a Lap 12 restart. Forsberg was the leader coming to take the green, when he spun his tires on the restart. That allowed Rico a great run into turn one where he threw a huge slider on Forsberg. As Rico slid up the track in front of Forsberg, Andy tried to turn back underneath of Rico and just misjudged the timing. Forsberg climbed the left rear of Rico's car nearly causing both cars to get upside down. Rico would continue on but Andy Forsberg's night was done. Rico would then set sail out front holding off a hard charge by Sean Becker late in the race to pick up his fifth Main Event win this season. Sean Becker had a solid night finishing in the second spot, Jonathan Allard finished third, Mason Moore fourth, and Dominic Scelzi charged from 14th to finish Fifth. Heat Race victories were claimed by Bud Walberg, Garen Linder, and Bobby Ray Butler. Andy Forsberg was fastest in Time Trials with a 12.140.

29 Dwarf Cars signed into the Pit Area for their first of Two Nights of racing at Silver Dollar Speedway this weekend. Drivers from California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and even British Columbia, Canada all packed the pit area. Joe Frock picked up the exciting feature win after holding off a ferocious charge from Shawn Jones. Jones started 11th and by lap five had taken over the lead. On a restart mid race though trouble would strike Jones as he would lose four positions. Jones worked his way back to second and was hounding the leader Frock who never once missed his marks. Frock rolled the car around the bottom of the speedway to perfection as Jones tried everything in the book to get around him. As the White flag flew they were side by side at the stripe. They battled side by side into turns three and four, but Jones got in too hot and spun the car over the cushion and off the track. Joe Frock won his second feature in as many starts at the Silver Dollar Speedway. He was followed across the line by Ryan Winter, Kevin Bender finished in the third position, while Brock Peters and Buddy Olschowka rounded out the top five. Heat Race victories were claimed by Danny Wagner, Shawn Jones, and Ryan Winter.

Shawn Jones was mentioned in the previous paragraph as nearly winning the Dwarf Car Main Event, but he came even closer to Victory Lane tonight behind the wheel of his #24 Wingless Sprint Car. Jones and Terry Schank Jr. were the class of the field. Both drivers railed the cushion around the Quarter Mile. Jones was faster but just could not find a way around Schank. On the final lap the two drivers would battle side by side to the stripe with Terry Schank Jr. winning by mere Inches over Jones. Tony Richards would round out the podium in the third position. The lone heat race win was taken by Schank as well.

Justin Henry continued his dominance of the Economy Sprint Car division in 2015 as he picked up his second win in as many starts. He led every lap of the 15 Lap Main Event behind the wheel of his #12 Haney Motorsports entry. Brandon Powell returned from a leg injury sustained last year to finish second. Dusty Barton would round out the podium.

We return to action at the Silver Dollar Speedway tonight! Saturday March 28th for the Mini Gold Cup featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Front Gate is scheduled to open at 5pm. With qualifying slated to start at 6:30pm and Racing at 7pm. We hope to see you all out here at the Silver Dollar Speedway.
