Gold Cup Itinerary
On Thursday, September 5th, the Gold Cup Museum opens at noon. The museum is located on the fairgrounds in a building right next to the Silver Dollar Pavilion. The museum will feature special relics that all relate to previous Gold Cup events. Former champions will be on site signing autographs along with vintage cars on display. The museum is also the official Thursday night post-race activity area for fans to congregate.
Friday morning is built with golfers in mind. The 27th Annual Clyde Lamar's Gold Cup Gold Classic. The golf tournament is organized to benefit the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum located at the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa. A shot-gun style start is scheduled at 8 am. The golf benefit takes place at the Bidwell Park Golf Course.
If golfing isn't in your plans then join other fans at the 3rd Annual BBQ and Open House presented at Vintage Hot Rod Design and Fabrication. The annual event starts at 10 am and will conclude around 3 pm. It offers free hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and custom hot rods on display. Vintage Hot Rod Design and Fabrication is located less than a mile from the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds at 631 Country Drive in Chico.
The Friday night post-race tradition continues with the Joe Hunt Magnetos Gold Cup Chili Feed and Miss Gold Cup Bikini Contest located inside the Silver Dollar pavilion. The fans are offered all they can eat food. There will also be a local DJ playing music. Fans can purchase tickets for the event at the novelty t-shirt booth at Silver Dollar Speedway.
On Saturday morning the Silver Dollar Pavilion will be turned into a playing field. Numerous drivers and local celebrities will participate in the 2nd Annual Jeff Gordon Kick-it for Cancer kick ball game. While the game is always intense, the day is about auctioning off prizes to raise money and awareness for children's cancer. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 am.
At noon the traditional Racer's Barbeque will take place in its normal spot right by the turn four pit entrance and just outside the Silver Dollar Pavilion. The food is donated by The Danielsen Co. and JP's Paint and Body Works in Chico. Free food and beverages are the tradition but donations are also accepted.
The 60th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions begins its four day assault on September 4th through September 7th. Four day tickets and camping spots are available for purchase by calling (530) 350-7275. Wednesday night will feature the 360 Civil War sprints and Joe Hunt Magneto's Wingless Sprint Shootout Series with general admission tickets starting at just $10.00! Thursday is billed as the Cavalcade of Gold Cup Memories and general admission tickets starting at just $15.00. Kids are FREE to attend on both Wednesday and Thursday nights. Friday and Saturday night will feature the greatest show on dirt, the World of Outlaws.
