Six Divisions on Tap This Friday Night

CHICO, CA (7-10-13) - If you are a fan of grassroots style, dirt track racing then this is the night for you. Promoter Dennis Gage has unleashed an aggressive six division race program for this Friday night, July 12th. Once again the Wells Fargo Championship night of racing will be led by the powerful 410 winged sprint cars. Adding to the nights racing activities include Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks, Dirt Modifieds, Limited Late Models and Mini Stocks. Tonight's races are presented by Chico Volkswagen. The good folks at Chico Volkswagen will be on hand to distribute free goodies and information on their wide arrange of great vehicles for sale. Owner Mark Abouzeid will also be on hand racing in the dirt modified division while his teammate and former street stock champion Kevin Lesch will also be competing. Abouzeid is looking for his first win this year while Lesch has grabbed two street stock feature wins.

This Friday night's front gate will open at 6 PM. Racing is slated to start at 7 PM. Adult general admission is $13.00, juniors and seniors are $11.00 while kids ages 6-11 are just $6.00. Kids five and under are free. Track office phone is 530-350-7275 for more information.

Sean Becker is on his way to a back-to-back championship at Chico in the 410 sprint car division. Becker holds a commanding 36-point lead over Sacramento's Willie Croft. Chico's Brad Bumgarner sits in the third spot and is having his best career to date while driving a 410 winged sprint car on dirt. Auburn's Andy Forsberg is in the fourth position while Chico's Jonathan Allard is fifth. Allard has won back to back main events at Chico and tallied a total of four wins at his home track in 2013. Chico's Michael Tarter has taken over as the top David Tarter rookie contender of the year. Tarter is sixth in points and holds a five point advantage over Keith Bloom for the special award. Corning's Bud Walberg is sandwiched between the two rookies in the seventh spot. Jason York needs a bounce back night as he hopes to regain his championship form.

The greatest Dirt Modified championship battle in the history of the speedway continues to get better. Three drivers are tied for the lead. Yuba City's Duane Cleveland, Olivehurst's Ryan McDaniel and Chico's Richard Papenhausen are all even with 226 points. All three are former champions of the track. Yet, sitting just four points behind them is Petaluma's Oreste Gonella. Of the six point races that have run this year, Cleveland, McDaniel and Papenhausen have won two each. Chico's Mark Abouzeid is looking to end up on the front stretch on this night in front of many of his employees, family members and friends. Tonight is Chico Volkswagen night and Abouzeid will be geared up to win.

The Limited Late Models will make their third appearance of the year at Chico. Ryan McDaniel is the current leader but his father and defending champion, Randy, is close on his heels. Randy is just three points back. Add to the mix Live Oaks Matt Micheli, who has one win and is tied with Randy for second. Ken Micheli, Matt's dad, sits in the fourth spot. David Larabee, another former champion, is in the fifth spot and still in a position to win his second championship. The Limited Late Models really do put the family back in racing.

Orland's Jake Vantol continues to lead the charge of the Street Stock division. While the competition continues to get better, Vantol continues to stay one step ahead. In seven races this year, Vantol has won five of the main events. The only other winner has been Chico Volkswagen driver Kevin Lesch. Yet, while Vantol has run away with the point's battle, the fight for second on back is newsworthy. Shawn Smith holds a five point lead over both Richard Workman and Mark Newman. Paradise's Kevin Ward is only 11-points back of Smith.

Misty Castleberry is perfect. The defending champion has won every race she has entered this year at Chico during the Wells Fargo point championship battle. Castleberry is three for three for heat race and main event wins. With her success she is holding a 27-point lead over Preston Irvin and a 58-point advantage over third place Galen Hainlin.

Hobby Stocks will make their six appearance of the year. Sacramento's Brian Compton leads the point battle by 16-pioints over David Pierce. Compton won last Friday night to go along with his three heat race wins. Pierce has a satisfying four top five finishes in main event action this year. Kyle Allen continues to gather important seat time and holds down the third position. Rounding out the top five are Jared Flower and Duane Orsburn.
