Fireworks and Racing Still Scheduled on July 4th Despite Heat
CHICO, CA (7-2-13) -Â Silver Dollar Speedway promoter Dennis Gage is finishing what he started. The scheduled July 4th celebration of America's Independence, auto racing and the fireworks show at the Silver Dollar Speedway will continue as planed even with the excess heat wave expected on July 4th.
That's not to say Gage is unaware of the heat. Gage is working with fair manager Scott Stoller to allow some options to relieve the fans and drivers who are planning to attend the annual Chico family tradition. The ARTS Building on the fairgrounds will open at 3 PM and provide air conditioning and iced water to early arrivals at the fairgrounds. There will be free golf kart shuttles from the parking lot to the grandstands. Gage and his staff will set-up water stations around the grandstands and parts of the fairgrounds to allow fans to get a free cold drink. The staff will also erect as many pop-up tents as we have to provide shade for people around the grandstands area and the ones waiting in line to buy tickets for the event.
The front grandstand gate will open at 5 PM on Thursday July 4th. The racing events are being pushed back a half an hour and will start at 6:30 PM instead of the scheduled 6 PM. People interested in attending the races can buy advance tickets at all local Riebes Auto Parts and the new Casino 99 located at the corner of East 20th and Park Ave.
Four racing divisions will fight it out on the quarter-mile clay oval Silver Dollar Speedway. The 410 winged sprint cars, Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprints, hobby and street stocks are scheduled to appear. The gigantic aerial fireworks show will start about ten to fifteen minutes once the final main event has finished. There will be patriotic themed music, a special reading of the Declaration of Independence and numerous give-a-ways to the fans in the grandstands.
