Civil War Series continued busy month of June at Chico's Silver Dollar this Friday
CHICO, CA (6-21-13) -Â The Perma-Zyme Wingless Friday night series has been dominated by two drivers this year. Defending champion Rowdy McClenon had won three of the four main events coming into this Friday nights race. The other championship contending driver has been Ron LaPlant. Tonight, during point race #9, it was LaPlant's turn to roll his potent #69 machine back into victory lane for a second time in 2013. "It's always fun to race at Chico and holding off Rowdy for the win makes it even more special," said LaPlant. Tonight the Perma-Zyme wingless series raced with the California Sprint Car Civil War Series.
LaPlant lined up with Don Emory on the front row. LaPlant jumped out to the lead. McClenon started third but by the fourth lap he had moved himself into second. By this time, however, LaPlant built up a sizeable advantage. The real fun of this main event was watching LaPlant masterfully hitting his marks lap after lap while also watching McClenon reel in the leader. With a few laps to go McClenon had caught LaPlant but was never able to pass him. LaPlant was able to keep the preferred racing line and cross the finish line first. McClenon's bid for a fourth win was denied but he still finished second to retain his point lead. After tonight's race, McClenon has 247 total Perma-Zyme championship points compared to Ron LaPlant's 236. Fifth starting Taylor Nelson came home in the third position. Emory fell back to a fourth place finish. Nathan Johnson brought the Perma-Zyme #e85 home in the fifth spot. Fast Eddy Lewis was the sixth place car. McClenon won the lone heat race of the night.
