USAC Non-Wing Sprints This Friday Night
By Troy Hennig
CHICO, CA (7-30-12) - The USAC Western Classic Racing Series will highlight this Friday nights racing at the Silver Dollar Speedway. The stars of USAC non-wing sprint car racing will converge on the quarter-mile clay oval speedway. It will be good to see some mud slinging after taking the past Friday night off.
Joining the USAC sprint cars will be the mini stocks, limited late models and economy sprints. The mini stocks and limited late models will race underneath the banner of point's race number 12.
Adult prices for the special USAC show are $15.00 for adults and seniors, $12.00 for juniors and $6.00 for children. The pit gate will open at 4pm. The front grandstand gate will open at 6pm. There is no reserved seating for this show.
Shauna Hogg is at the top of the USAC point ladder. The 45-year-old Citrus Heights resident is leading the United States Auto Club's Western Classic Sprint Car series by 76 points over Lincoln's Tony Hunt. This series races on pavement and dirt. Hogg is also leading the separate dirt point standings. Hogg leads Calistoga's Marty Hawkins by 58 points. Needless to say, she is having a great season. The stars of USAC will go up against the local winged drivers brave enough to take off the top wing. Those drivers include Auburn's Andy Forsberg and Chico's Kevin Sharrah. Rio Linda's Scott Hall should also be a strong factor.
Jason Clayton leads Misty Castleberry by just one point heading into Friday nights mini stock race. The popular door banging division has produced some of the best racing this season. Castleberry has three main event wins to Claytons one. James Foster holds down the third spot. Early season point leader Shaun Merritt is fourth. Damian Merritt rounds out the top five.
The limited late models return for their sixth race of the season. Marysville champion Randy McDaniel has three of the five main event wins. Matt Micheli scored a win and so did Jerry Bartlett. Matt Micheli is 17-points behind McDaniel. However, behind Micheli is Charlie Marrs only four points back. Ken Micheli is fourth and just three points behind Marrs.
The economy sprints continue to get a lot of run at the speedway. This race is the sixth appearance of the year at Chico. Tony Richards has won the last two main events.
The speedway will also be racing on Saturday night, August 4th. The race will feature a 200 - lap Enduro race. Before the race the speedway will host an outhouse race. The Hot August Deal is just $6.00 for admission into the grandstand. Pit gate opens at 4pm; front gate opens at 6pm. The Enduro race is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
