Marino Wins Special Saturday Night Street Stocks Point Race
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Photo by Steven Cox [sprintcarphotos.com][/caption]CHICO, CA (5-5-12) -Â Chico's Phil Marino won a special Saturday night Street Stock race at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Marino, a former two-time track champion, led all 20-laps to get the popular win. The Street Stock point race coincided with the 22nd Annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. A total of 13 Street Stocks showed up for the rare Saturday night race.
Marino started on the front row with Mike Slightom. Marino took the lead coming to the green flag while Slightom fell into the second spot. Richard Workman started in the fourth spot but was soon challenging Slightom for second. Workman took the spot away from Slightom and tried to real in Marino for the lead of the race. Kevin Ward started in the fifth spot and he moved around a few cars to secure the third spot. Bill Patterson ran a strong race to finish fourth. He started sixth but was challenging for the third place finish for most of the race. Shawn Smith began the race in the seventh spot and worked his way to a fifth place finish. Back up front it was all about Marino. He led wire to wire and captured his first win of the 2012 season at Chico.
The Complete Tree Care #28m also finished in the second spot of heat race number one. Picking up the win was Jake Vantol. Richard Workman won the second heat race of the night. The Street Stocks continue their championship battle on May 18, point race #6 at the speedway.
