The drivers did their best to survive the wind drenched, slick quarter-mile dirt raceway. All three can now add a Champion to their resume as they are all Silver Cup Champions.
San Jose driver Nick Green grabbed the early lead over Wiesz on the first lap of the 25-lap sprint car main event. It didn't take Wiesz long to catch back up to Green and pass him for the lead on lap two. A lap later Greg DeCaires was able to move underneath Green's #14 and took the second spot away. With the track conditions the way they were most of the drivers just had to hit their marks and roll around the bottom of the track. One driver trying to be a hero was Kyle Larson. Give him credit for trying the top of the race track and seeing if there was anyway to make strides. Unfortunately, he was not bale to find the right grip and fell back in the field before pulling off.
Wiesz was able to keep cool, calm and collected up front. Never once did he seem to put himself in a position to lose the lead. DeCaires was able to close in a little bit once Wiesz got into some slower traffic but for the most part it was a comfortable lead fro Wiesz. DeCaires was able to hold on for the second spot. It was a good weekend for DeCaires. Sean Becker moved into the third spot and had a solid weekend driving for Rod Fauver. Hopefully those two can find the needed sponsorship to allow them to race on Friday nights in Chico. Andy Forsberg charged from seventh to fourth in the family owned Pit Stop USA #92. Kyle Hirst started tenth and finished in the fifth spot.
Willie Croft led all 12 laps to win the B-main event. Hirst, Garen Linder and Dean Freitas all transferred to the main event. Kyle Larson, Geoff Ensign, Cody Lamar and Cole Wood all won their eight lap heat race. Larson was the night's fastest qualifier at 13.203. The time was almost a full second slower than the time Willie Croft turned the night before in qualifying.
Rio Linda's Scott Hall won the 15-lap Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Shootout main event as part of the Silver Cup Race of Champions. Cody Smith led the first lap but drifted high going through turns three and four and surrender the lead to Hall. The race went non-stop until lap 11 when David Sprigg and another car had contact. Sprigg stopped on the track and need assistance off the racing surface. Chico's Mitch Miller also came to a stop in turn four. On the restart, Terry Schank Jr. moved into the second spot. This pushed Smith back to the third spot. Late in the race Billy Aton was charging through the field and also passed Smith. Aton secured a third place finish with the move. Smith hung on to bring the #2vs home fourth. Hall was able to hold off Schank and win the race. Schank and Hall each prevailed during their 8-lap heat race.
Braedon Enos earned the fastest lap during group qualifying at a 15.429.
Even though Craig Nieman lives in Quincy he should think about relocating to Chico. Nieman clean swept the entire racing weekend including heat races. It was the most dominant showing of the weekend.
He won the Friday night heat race and main event and followed that streak up by doing the same thing tonight. Nieman beat Mitch Machado into turn one and went on to lead all 15 main event laps. Machado finished in the second spot while Chico champion Phil Marino came home in the third. Only nine cars showed up for the second night of Silver Cup.
