Second in Chico Highlights Abreu’s Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA: Rico Abreu put together a strong run Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway as he scored second, and saw his bid at a top-five finish at Marysville Raceway Park Saturday night deflate as the youngster cut a tire at the halfway point.

Competing at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, Abreu timed in 11th quick and went on to win his heat race from the front row.

Sharing the front row with Tyler Wolf, Abreu and Wolf put on an entertaining battle for much of the race.

As Wolf held the upper-hand much of the race, Abreu threw a slide job on Wolf in turns one and two, unfortunately it didn’t stick, and Wolf got the lead back and went on to win the race.

“Friday was pretty cool battling for the lead again in Chico,” said Abreu. “We had one shot to get Wolf, but I pressed the issue a little to hard, and he got back under.”

Saturday night, Abreu returned to action with the King of The West Series where he would make his first appearance at the Marysville Raceway Park.

With 29 cars on hand, Abreu timed in 7th quick where he found himself in the second row of his heat race.

Battling with Andy Gregg in the heat, Abreu fell to fifth as his car was a little snug on the sticky, fast racing surface, and he was forced to the B main.

After winning the B, Abreu was fortunate enough to get his time back in the feature, and he started in the fifth row.

The Marysville Raceway Park was in great shape for the feature, and cars were going both high and low on the speedway, and the youngster was able to slowly pick up positions as the first 15-laps went caution free, and he had worked his way up to the sixth spot.

During the caution it was evident that his Abreu Vineyards/Kaeding Performance/Maxim had a flat tire after brushing the wall, and he was forced to the work area for a tire change.

Narrowly making it back out, Abreu was marred in the back of the pack, but he was able to work his way back up to a 15th place finish.

“We had a pretty good car in the feature, and I think we would have been able to keep it in the top-five,” said Abreu. “My guys worked hard to get us where we needed to be, but unfortunately I cut a tire and we ended up in the back.”
