Schank Doubles Up at Chico
By: Troy Hennig
CHICO, CA – AUGUST 26, 2011...Santa Rosa veteran Terry Schank Jr. added another championship to his long list of achievements while driver the Roger Gleason Joe Hunt Magnetos #1. Schank Jr. led all 20-laps Friday night to win the main event and capturing his second track title in consecutive years. By winning tonight he also won the 6ft Pepsi trophy for the second year in a row. “I am sending the trophy home with Roger tonight. My wife hated looking at that thing all year,” he said jokingly. “This car has been perfect since it has hit the track this year. I have not won the Wednesday night show and that’s the next goal we want to accomplish.” Schank was referring to the September 7th, Wednesday night race at the Gold Cup.
BJ Martin took the lead on the opening lap. It lasted just three laps until it looked as if something in the motor department let go. He stopped on the front stretch and was not able to restart. Schank Jr. inherited the lead. Braedon Enos ran in the second spot and Travis Moore was third. On lap 15 Taylor Simas moved around Moore for the third spot. After the 20 laps were completed it was Schank Jr., Enos and Simas as the top three.
BJ Martin and Brandon Enos won the eight lap heat races. The wingless spec sprints have three more appearances at Chico. September 7th, September 30 and October 1 are the upcoming shows for the wingless spec sprints.
