Civil War Series and Joe Hunt Wingless Kick Things off Wednesday Night
CHICO, CA (9-4-11) -Â The 58th Annual Gold Cup Race a Champions is just days away from kicking off with the annual Wednesday night Civil War 360 race and the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprints Shootout Series on September 7th. The twin billing will bring excitement for the fans and drivers alike. A great roster of 360 winged drivers and wingless spec warriors will guarantee the fans a great night of racing. This show kicks off the "Fastest Four Nights on Dirt" at Silver Dollar Speedway.
The Civil War Series will feature top drivers from the season long point battle. Auburn's Andy Forsberg leads the point standings in the potent Steve Tuchelli and Alan Bradway Friends and Family #x1. Steven Tiner sits in the second spot. Forsberg leads Tiner by 20 championship points. Kyle Hirst holds down the third spot. Hirst is six points behind Tiner for second. The championship has come down to three horse battle between Forsberg, Tiner and Hirst. Alissa Geving is fourth on the list. She is some 67-points behind Forsberg. However, Geving does hold an 18-point cushion over Sean Becker. The Civil War posted more money and awards this year for the championship. In doing so, they have attracted nine drivers to make all 11 starts and the top 14 in points have attended at least nine events so far.
Adding to the top Civil War regular talent on Wednesday will be Grass Valley's Brad Sweet, Elk Grove's Kyle Larson and St Helena's Rico Abreu. All three drivers have earned Civil War points and were quick to turn in their entry forms once the deadline had come and passed for top 32 drivers in the points. Also making the show are Brad Bumgarner, Charlie Cagle, Jimmy Steward and Gary Burdick.
The Joe Hunt Series just added Jimmy Sills to their strong roster of drivers. Another top driver, Scott Hall, also recently entered the Wednesday night show. The series champion, Taylor Simas, will be ready to prove why he is the leader of this group come Wednesday. Chico two-time champion Terry Schank Jr. and Alex Shutte are eager for the win. Stephanie Tuttle of Marysville has also entered in the show along with Cody and Mason Myers of Browns Valley. Roger Gleason of Joe Hunt Magnetos is offering 5 gallons of racing fuel and a newly designed t-shirt to any competitors who show up and support the wingless show on Wednesday night.
Pit gate will open at 2 pm. Front grandstand opens at 5pm. Sprint car qualifying scheduled for 6:30pm. Racing slated to start at 7pm. Tickets prices for grandstand are $25.00.
