Modified Rules Modified at Silver Dollar Speedway
CHICO, CA (3-26-11) -Â Silver Dollar Speedway competitor rules have been under review over the winter months and the Speedway technical committee has made their final recommendations. Most divisions have no change, but Dirt Modified class is being aligned with the national IMCA rules. "It is hard to make any wholesale changes this late in the year, so this attempt is to get the dirt modified class directed towards the national IMCA rules," explained track manager Dennis Gage.
Gage announced that for the upcoming season, the Dirt modifieds who comply with the 2011 IMCA rulebook may run at a total weight of 2,350 lbs. Existing cars, who meet Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway rules, will be allowed to compete at the standard 2,450 lbs. "It isn't a perfect world," explained Gage, "but it is a step towards unifying these rules and getting the modified class filled in Chico." The division will also follow the IMCA guidelines for ignition boxes and rev limiters.
The rev limiter will not go into effect until May 1 of this year, and allows the six current IMCA methods of controlling the engine RPM. The maximum allowable RPM will be 7,800 and must be chip controlled. Currently IMCA has approved MSD, Crane, Mallory, and Accel rev limiter ignition boxes. Programmable distributors are not allowed.
Dirt modifieds race sixteen times this year at Silver Dollar Speedway, and constitute a major weekly division for the high banked mile clay oval at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds. They will also headline the June 17 Modified Madness program that will carry some special incentives with sponsorship from Hoosier Tire, Pepsi, Coors Light, Riebe's NAPA Auto Parts, and Chico Volkswagen.
