CHICO CA – A new champion will be determined this Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico as the competitive Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout Series will compete for the final event of the 2010 racing season. This event will be the 11th segment of the series and will now determine the series champion with the final event of the tour being cancelled due to the recent closure of Marysville Raceway Park.

"This is going be the finale," said Roger Gleeson, manager of Hunt Magnetos. "Under the circumstances we didn't feel that scheduling this event at another track would be appropriate. This Friday we shall see who the first champion of this great series will be."

The Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout Series was originally scheduled to consist of 12 events at three different California tracks. Silver Dollar Speedway, Placerville Speedway and Marysville Raceway Park were the designated battle fields for this electrifying series that has seen record car counts and great competitive racing at nearly every event thus far.

Originally, the Hunt Magnetos Series was scheduled to conclude this Saturday night with the 12th and final leg of competition at Marysville Raceway Park. Following last week's event, Paul and Kathy Hawes, operators of Marysville Raceway Park, have cancelled the remainder of the 2010 racing season. From the beginning, Hawes has been a strong supporter of the Wingless Shootout Series and is partially responsible for its success in its debut year.

"We'd like to thank Paul and Kathy Hawes for supporting this series all year long, it was a team effort from the beginning and it's worked well," said Alan Handy. "Our condolences go to their staff and family following their incredible loss. We hope they can eventually come back stronger than ever."

Over the ten races that have taken place so far this season, 61-different drivers have competed and earned points in the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout Series. Six different drivers have earned feature wins and 22 different drivers have garnered preliminary heat race finishes.

On top of the boosted winnings throughout the year, the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout determines the starting grid for the upcoming Wingless Invitational at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico which opens the Gold Cup Race of Champions on Wednesday night, September 8. The top 30 drivers in the Shootout point standings following Friday's event will be eligible for the Wingless Invitational.

Entering Friday's event, three time winner Terry Schank Jr. of Santa Rosa continues to lead the point standings in the Wingless Shootout Championship Series. Schank is currently 17 points ahead of Chico's Taylor Simas. Johnny Reeves of Elverta is third in the standings over three time winner Billy Wallace of Grass Valley. Jerry Cisco of Rancho Cordova is fifth overall ahead of Timmy Sherman of Citrus Heights, Scott Hall of Lincoln, Arvo Backlholm of Santa Rosa and Josh Viera of Marysville.

On Friday night the gates to Silver Dollar Speedway will open at 6 p.m. with racing beginning at 7 p.m. Adult tickets will be $12.00, juniors and seniors $10.00 and Children will be $5. Children five and under will be free. The Wingless Sprint Cars will be joined by the fire breathing winged 410 sprint cars as the Feather Falls Casino, Hoosier Tires, Riebes Auto Parts, Coors Light Season winds down to its final two weeks. Street Stocks and ASCS Midgets will complete the action packed evening.
