CHICO, CA (5-11-10) -Â Garth Moore had an idea. During the past five years of collaborating with Silver Dollar Speedway on the sponsor nights at the track, Moore has always done a wonderful job helping to promote the night. However, he always wanted to use his night to bring recognition to a local local Nonprofit organization. Moore could not of had a better idea. This Friday night, Handy Racing Promotions and Moore Insurance Services Inc. will welcome the "Wings of Eagles", a Joseph Alvarez Organization for seriously ill children. In collaborating with this amazing Nonprofit group, tickets are being given to the "Wings of Eagles" for the children to come out and spend a night at the race track. "I have been wanting to do something like this for awhile," said Moore. "I appreciate the help from Handy Racing and I hope to give these kid's a fun night at the race track."
The Feather Falls Casino / Riebes Auto Parts / Hoosier Tire / Coors Light / Pepsi Friday night series returns with point race #6, May 14, at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds. Auburn's Andy Forsberg leads the Princeton's Mason Moore by only five points. Forsberg is a former champion of the speedway while Moore is a former rookie of the year with two career wins. Mason will also be heavily involved with helping his father with the "Wings of Eagles". "I am looking forward to meeting the kids and their parents. Dad and I are going to give some of them a special V.I.P tour," said Moore. This season Mason has been a busy racer. Driving both the family owned #22 sprint car at Chico and the Family and Friends #x1 at Placerville and other 360 events. "It's been a fun start to the year," said Moore. "I am lucky to have guys like Tooch and Alan to help me out and obviously my dad, mom and family for all their support." Redding's Tyler Wolf is off to a hot start. The third year driver currently sits in the third spot. Top rookie of the year contender Kenny Allen sits in the fourth spot. Chico's Kevin Sharrah round out the top five. Oklahoma driver Shane Stewart is also scheduled to return this Friday night. Stewart won the Dave Bradway Jr. event last Saturday night.
The Silver Dollar Minute continues to air on Thursday night during the local news on channel 12 and 24. This Thursday myself and Lee Carrol will do a special on the "Wings of Eagles" organization with help from the Moore family. We will also be accepting donations at the speedway on Friday night. All of the proceeds will go to the "Wings" Nonprofit group.
"Wings of Eagles" is the Joseph Alvarez Organization for seriously ill children. "Wings was established in June of 1993 by Georgia Alvarez in memory of her son Joseph who died of a very rare and terminal form of leukemia in January of 1991. Since "Wings" inception, over a million dollars have been raised to help children in and about Northern California who have various forms of serious, life threatening illnesses, with preference given to pediatric cancer cases. Hundreds of families who have a child with a serious illness have been served by "Wings", relieving their financial and emotional burdens.

The Wingless Sprint cars return to Chico after last Friday's successful Joe Hunt Magnetos race. Orland's Taylor Simas, Chico's Jimmy Pettit and Grass Valley's Jay and Brett Youngman are expected to appear. Last Friday nights winner, BJ Martin of Orland, is also assumed to return to try and make it two for two on Friday night at Chico. The wingless warriors had a great car count, 27, and provided a memorial finish between race winner Martin and a charging Billy Wallace.
The dirt modified division point battle is crowded with McDaniel's. Leading the points is Marysville driver Ryan McDaniel. McDaniel won the opening night race for this division. One point behind is his father, Randy McDaniel. The father and son dynamic duo has won six track championships. A gritty run by Tom Purcell during the first night puts him third in points. He is followed by Jeff Olschowka and three drivers are tied for fifth.
The ASCS midget will return for a second week at Chico. Last Friday a low car count didn't hamper the show put on by Dillon Silverman. The senior in high school provided some fast laps and dominated the heat race and main event. We are looking forward to attracting more ASCS Midgets for this Friday night race.
