CHICO, CA (6-19-09) - It was a stock car extravaganza Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway. The ASA Sanctioned track hosted point race number ten during the Feather Falls Casino point championship series. The Dirt modifieds and street stocks were present. The main attraction was the traveling Western All Stars Late Model Series. This series travels to Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada. Tonight their destination was Silver Dollar Speedway. A healthy 30 Late Models rolled into the pit area tonight for the one and only stop of the year at Chico.Even with the extra competition one driver took out the broom and clean swept the rest of the field. Merced driver Chris Shannon, defending series champion, liked the newly remolded surface at Chico. Shannon started off the night by breaking the existing track record in qualifying. Shannon turned an electrifying 14.221. Shannon went on to win the first heat race. By luck of the draw started on the front row of the dash and went on to win the six lap race. This set him up for the pole position of the feature. Shannon jumped out to the lead and never looked back. He held off charges by Bobby Hogge IV and Mike Johnson throughout the 30-lap contest. Shannon was also able to smoothly negotiate slower cars. This was important because the final 28 laps of the race went non-stop. At the finish line he best Mike Johnson by 1.253 seconds. Shannon was excited as he thanked his crew and the fans for coming out during his post race interview. Hogge IV was third and Zack Forster followed him. Clay Daly crossed the line in fifth.

Chico's Mark Abouzeid just cannot be beat this year at Silver Dollar Speedway. Abouzeid led from the get go of the 20-lap dirt modified main event and went on to win his fourth feature of the year. Not only did he win again but also that now makes it four in a row for Abouzeid. His nearest challenger was Jeff Olschowka. Abouzeid beat Olschowka by 2.908 seconds at the finish line. Daniel Dozier Jr. was an impressive addition to the dirt-modified field. He ran second for most the event before falling to third at the checkered. Susanville masher John Sloan returned to Chico for the first time in 2009 and finished fourth. Dustin Massey rebounded from an early spin to charge through the field and finish fifth.

Phil "the thrill" Marino continued his winning ways at Chico. Marino took the lead on the first circuit of the 15-lap race. He then went on to lead every lap and score his fourth win of the year of out of the five events this season. Marino's biggest challenger was Kevin Pendergrass. He passed Heather Bartlett on lap three and tried to track down Marino. To his credit, Pendergrass was only 1.783 seconds behind Marino at the finish. Third place Bartlett was 15.431 seconds behind Marino. Donny Fortney made his first start of the year at Chico and finished fourth. Richard Workman finished in the fifth spot.

Casey Vitale won the 12-lap B main event for the Western All Stars. He passed early leader Leroy Perry on lap three. Perry went on to finish second. The final three transfer spots went to Nick Bartels, Paul Gugliemoni and Ron Bartels.

Shannon won the first hear race for the Late Models. Shawn Deforest led all ten laps to win the second heat. Heat race three winner was Bobby Hogge IV. Mike Johnson led all 10-laps to win the fourth heat.

Pendergrass won the only street stock heat race of the night.

John Abbott and Dustin Massey were each victorious in their heat races for the dirt-modified division.
