Lucas Oil Speedway Midseason Championships includes makeup POWRi Late Model feature
WHEATLAND, MO. (June 10, 2024) - It will be a full night of racing with some extra action included at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday night, for the Big Adventure RV Weekly Championship Series Midseason Championships Presented by the Bolivar Herald-Free Press.
Action will get underway with the Hermitage Lumber POWRi Late Models running their 30-lap makeup feature from a rainout on the final night of the Show-Me 100. The $2,000-to-win feature, using the lineup that was set to run on May 25th, will follow hot laps the regular racing program will get underway after the makeup race.
Midseason champions will be crowned in all four weekly divisions - the Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modifieds, O’Reilly Auto Parts USRA B-Mods, Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mods and POWRi Late Models. POWRi Super Stocks have been added as a special guest class with a $500-to-win feature.
All the midseason champs will earn $500.
Points battles find several drivers in contention in all three of the regular weekly classes. In the USRA B-Mods, JC Morton of Springfield has a 15-point lead over Nevada's Jon Sheets and Eric Turner is only 19 behind the leader with defending track champ Bobby Williams and Trevor Drake both 20 out of the lead and Ryan Gillmore just 25 behind.
Defending track champ Ryan Middaugh of Fulton has a 20-point margin in the USRA Modifieds over Robbie Reed with Jason Pursley 24 behind. In the USRA Stock Cars, Jaylen Wettengel of Topeka, Kan., is up by nine over William Garner and is 12 in front of Derek Brown.
It’s not as close in the POWRi Late Models where Aurora’s Justin Wells is 210 points ahead of second-place Tucker Cox. Wells, the reigning track champ, is 5-for-5 in feature wins and the feature on the regular program will see a “bounty” placed on him.
General Manager Danny Lorton said the bounty will start at $500 to any driver able to beat Wells. Each week that the bounty doesn't get claimed, $100 will be added - June 22nd ($600), July 4th ($700), July 20th ($800) and July 27th ($900).
"If no one claims the bounty in the five-week hunt, then Wells will receive the $900 bounty money which we will top it off with an extra $100 to make it an even $1,000 if he can outrun the bounty hunters," Lorton said. "These four races, the bounty has to be earned legally, the driver's car has to pass tech 100 percent and Justin has to have finished the race for it to be claimed.”
