BREWER, SCHULTZ, PENSE, HILL WIN FIRST OF 2017, SCOTT WINS 2ND

Tulsa, OKLA (April 18, 2017) - Kevin Brewer, Kendall Schultz, Larry Pense, and Jesse Hill win first races of 2017, while Robert Scott wins his second race of the season.

Robert Scott makes it number two of the season in the Factory Stock Division. Topping the 12 car field, Scott, pulling out to an early lead after a pair of crashes that claimed 2 of the 4 drivers starting in the first two rows. After the 2nd restart, Scott found himself starting on the front row, pulling away from the field with ease. After the shuffle, Scott was being trailed by Austin McSperitt, after starting 6th at the initial green flag by lap 5, but McSperitt couldn't get close enough to Scott to challenge. Last row starter, and biggest mover of the race, Jimmy Owens made his way from his 11th starting position, through the field to finish 3rd. Toby Cooper didn't have a good feature start, finding himself involved in one of the opening lap crashes, shuffling himself to the back on the restart. Cooper made his way back through the field and battled with fifth place finisher Carl Lewis for several laps before Lewis was overtaken by Cooper on lap 13, taking fourth place from Lewis, who had settled into fourth during the opening laps of the race.

The Champ Sprint feature saw two different leaders. Kevin Brewer was the driver who led the most important lap, crossing the line ahead of the 20 car field. Jimmy Taylor started out strong, leading the first 15 laps and had his sights on victory lane, but Brewer had different plans. Starting from the fifth row, Brewer made his way past some fierce competition, and found himself battling with Taylor and completing the pass on lap 16. But closing in behind him was 2nd place finisher and 15th place starter Jamie Passmore. Passmore had some work to do, making the pass on 3rd place finisher Kyle Clark with just 2 laps remaining. Clark, who started in the 6th row, right behind race winner Brewer, made his way through the field behind Brewer, but lost forward momentum on lap 21. On lap 20, Clark made a pass on the 2016 Champ Sprint Track Champion Zach Alley, who was running 2nd a majority of the race, for the 3rd position. Zach Alley got shuffled to 3rd after being passed by Brewer and Passmore, then again by Clark, finishing the race in fourth. Brent Bates was the 5th place finisher, making his way into fifth after starting 7th, but was unable to move forward from fifth after being passed by Brewer, Passmore, Clark and Alley.

Kendall Shultz won his first Modified race after bad luck struck last week's winner, Chad Davis, suffering mechanical failure on the opening lap of the race. Shultz started on the pole of the 20 lap race, and was never challenged for the lead. Ho Dean finished 2nd, who started fourth, trailed Shultz for the whole duration of the race. Dean was able to challenge Shultz several times during the race, but was unable to pull off the pass. Brandon Dean, son of Ho Dean, finished the race in 3rd after a fierce battle with his father during the closing laps of the race. Brandon was able to complete the pass on the elder Dean on lap 19, but he was swiftly re-challenged and overtaken by his father, settling for a 3rd place finish. Collin Wisely finished fourth, after starting sixth, and was unable to challenge Brandon Dean for 3rd. Justin Cartwright started on the outside of the front row, but was overtaken by the Dean family and Wisely on laps 6, 7, and 8.

Larry Pence found himself in victory lane in the Dwarf Car division. Pense, who is no stranger to victory lane, won the race from the front row, but not very easily. Pense was challenged by 5th place starter Brian McClelland at the cross flags, but was unable to complete the pass, finishing the race in 2nd. Sixth place starter Jorge Chacon had is hands full, piloting his number 12 into a 3rd place finish. Chacon was searching for 2nd place, but ran out of time, challenging McClelland on lap 18 and 19, but couldn't secure the position. Rob McQuary was the fourth best of the race, after coming up from a 13th position start. McQuary made his way into fourth place after a long, fierce battle with front row starter Sam Champlain. Champlain was shoved backward as he was passed by McClelland on lap 5, Chacon on lap 10, and McQuary on lap 12. Brent Bates put his bid in for a top five finish, but was unable to make the pass on Champlain.

Jesse Hill reigned supreme during Saturday night's Mini Stock feature event. Hill made an opening lap pass on Robert Lockhart to claim the lead, and was never challenged. Wesley Knebel made his way into 2nd place on the opening lap, after also making a pass on Lockhart. Jimmy Masterson finished 3rd after starting next to Knebel in the 3rd row. Masterson didn't have it as easy as Hill and Knebel, being forced to battle with Lockhart for the 3rd position. Masterson made the pass on Lockhart for 3rd on lap 9. Twelfth place starter Justin Melton was the biggest mover of the mini stocks, driving his 4BJR car into a fifth place finish. Melton was on the outside looking in to the top five until lap 18, when he made a final attempt at a top five on Kenny Grumadas. Melton completed his pass on Grumadas, on lap 19 after taking the white flag.
