Daltyn England Captures 2023 MARA Championship; Taylor Picks Up Eighth Win

Sun Prairie (September 3rd, 2023) - After 12 long and grueling nights of racing, Daltyn England came across the line to take the 2023 AgVenture and Wehmeyer Seed Midget Auto Racing Association Championship. Adam Taylor picked up yet another feature win on the season as he won the opening night of the Fireman’s Nationals.

The AgVenture and Wehmeyer Seeds MARA Midgets championship would be determined as Daltyn England took the championship lead heading into the final night after Mark McMahill, only 43 points behind, ran into issues in the previous nights feature. The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midgets championship closed after the previous night with the gap between the leader Adam Taylor and second placed Todd Kluever only 14 points.

The Fireman’s Nationals always bring a lot of special cars. Some drivers were pulling double duty with the USAC Midgets, such as 3-time Badger champion Chase McDermand was in Brian Peterson’s #7. Daniel Robinson found himself in both RAB Racing cars. Zach Boden tested himself by running in both divisions as well.

The FiveOne QuickTime Award went to Robinson with a time of 14.839. Second was Todd Kluever at a 14.877. Derek Doerr picked up the third spot with a 14.970. Fourth and fifth went to Kyle Stark and Parker Jones.

The Madison Extinguisher Service Non-Qualifier Heat was won by Kyle Koch, with Nicholas Klein and Blake Beckwith second and third. AutoMeter Heat 1 went to Brandon Waelti with Kurt Mayhew and Tyler Roth behind. Simpson Race Products and VMS Rod Ends Heat 2 saw Aaron Muhle pick up the win while Miles Doherty and Doerr battled for second and third. Behling Heat 3 was won by Kluever, with Cody Weisensel second and Boden third. Jakeb Boxell picked up the win in the rare and elusive Engler Heat 4 with Robinson and Andy Baugh rounding out the podium.

The High Performance Lubricant B-Main locked in 6 drivers, with Jones and Eric Blumer the front row at the start. T-Mez, aka Meseraull, ran all the way to the front to pick up the win from his twenty second starting spot. McDermand, Abby Hohlbein, McMahill, keeping his championship hopes alive, Matt Rechek, and Dave Collins Jr all locked themselves into the A-Main as well.

A MARA Racing champion was to be crowned as the Advanced Fastening Supply, AgVenture, and Wehmeyer Seed A-Main rolled out onto the raceway. Weisensel and Taylor lined up on the front of the twenty five lap feature event. The green flag flew on the feature and Taylor jumped to the early lead. Third starting Waelti made a quick pass to get around Weisensel. The top two cars began to run away while Weisensel came under pressure from eighth starting Robinson, who was able to work around Weisensel for third. The yellow flag would fly for Weisensel slowing down the back straight. After Weisensel got back going and the green came back out, attention turned to the #57A of Meseraull, up thirteen spots into fourth. Calamity struck for five different cars as Baugh, Rechek, Boxell, Meseraull, and McDermand all ran into issues all within three laps, all ending their nights early. The green would fly and the top two would run evenly through the field before Robinson made it a three car battle for the win. Robinson worked past Waelti for second with two laps remaining, and chased down the leader Taylor in the remaining laps. Robinson would try and send a last ditch effort slider on Taylor for the lead coming for the checkered but Taylor stayed strong off the cushion to pick up his eighth feature win of the season. Robinson came home second with Waelti third, Stark fourth, and Boden fifth.

With a tenth place finishing spot and his championship rival not being able to make up the points gap, Daltyn England was confirmed as the 2023 AgVenture and Wehmeyer Seed Midget Auto Racing Association champion.

The AFS Badger Midgets finish their season on September 4th for the second night of the Fireman’s Nationals.
