Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 19, 2020) – A blown tire derailed Trey Starks last Thursday at Knoxville Raceway, which hosted The One and Only and the 9th annual Brownells Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank in place of the Knoxville Nationals.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver kicked off the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event by qualifying 39th quickest out of the nearly 70 competitors. The lined him up on the outside of the front row for a heat race. Starks led most of the race before a tire blew in the closing laps.

“I felt like the whole theme was qualifying and we didn’t qualify well,” he said. “It put us in a good spot in the heat races though. I feel like our whole weekend could have been different if we didn’t blow the tire in the heat race on the opening night. Otherwise we would have locked into the main event.”

The DNF in the heat race relegated Starks to the C Main. He was credited with a 16th-place result in the race.

“We didn’t qualify like we needed to on the second night either, but we had a good shot at a heat win,” said Starks, who timed in 42nd quickest. “We ended second so we had to fight through the B Main. We were going okay, but just needed to be better.”

Starks placed 12th in the consolation race.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday.

“I felt good in my qualifier,” Starks said. “We battled with some good cars and went from 10th to eighth. We were close, but we were off a little. Running with the cars we were running with you can’t be off at all.”

Starks ended the weekend with a 16th-place outing in the B Main.

“We’ll make some changes to our program to find some consistent speed,” he said. “We have some two-day shows coming up that I think we can build off of.”

Gobrecht Motorsports plans on taking this weekend off before resuming competition on Aug. 28-29 at Knoxville Raceway. Starks will enter the event ranked ninth in the championship standings.
