Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (May 8, 2018) – Mason Daniel rebounded from an early incident to capture his second straight top-10 result last Friday during an ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region race at Heartland Park Topeka.
Daniel finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race during his debut at the track in Topeka, Kan. That lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the A Main.
“I was running 11th when I went into turns three and four harder than I should have,” he said. “I got in there a little hot and spun out so we restarted 20th. We were able to drive back into the top 10 and probably would have got a few more positions, but we had a right rear tire with a hole in it the last few laps so we were hanging on.”
Daniel’s rally to overcome the early spin and outlast the flat tire resulted in a 10th-place finish.
He was on pace to improve his results the ensuing night at Lucas Oil Speedway, where Daniel advanced from eighth to fifth place in a heat race before a runner-up result in the B Main started him 18th in the main event.
“We got up to 11th in six laps,” he said. “On the first corner we passed three or four cars. We had a really fast car and I was able to run where they weren’t and pick them off. I got a little high on entry in turns three and four. The chassis caught the cushion and we ended up flipping over. There was a hole on entry. I thought if I could go above the hole my corner would be better. As I did that the cushion caught our bottom right side of the chassis. Once I came down I ended up turning over. We sat there for what seemed like a year when someone came in full throttle and ran into us.”
The crash marked Daniel’s first sprint car flip and unfortunately ended his night early with an 18th-place result.
He is slated to compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com this Wednesday at Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., and Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.
