Greenbush Race Park
Dvergsten, Blacklance, Graff, Puffe, and Brauer find Victory Lane @ GRP
The clouds parted to an open sky and plenty of sunshine to heat things up at the Greenbush race park on Saturday night. Another outstanding job by the track prep crews and workers giving the drivers an absolutely flawless racing surface.
In the Pure stocks It was Brandon Puschinsky taking the green flag on the pole followed by Shannon George and Mason Sholin. Lots of passing and a little contract persisted throughout the feature event. Dustin Puffe was once again on the move advancing his way on the high side of the track for a good part of the race and at times able to move to the low side and squeak by the cars ahead of him. Tight battles for position would wind down like this. Taking the win was Puffe, followed by Scholin, Brandon Puschinsky, George, and Karen Puschinsky who moved up to 5th from her 8th starting spot.
In the Midwest Modified feature it was Joel Olson on the pole position chased by Connor Graff and Aaron Blacklance. On the start of the race Graff and Blacklance made great starts as they pushed forward. As Olson started to fade it was Gary Nelson making a big charge to the front of the pack. Graff held the lead for much of the race while in a heated battle with Blacklance who soon had to deal with Nelson who made the pass for 2nd. A good finish had the win going to Graff, Nelson, Blacklance, Justin Olson in 4th and MaKenna Romuld coming home in 5th.
The lightning sprints took the green led by Emmit Isane and Sean Enright, and Matt Taves in 3rd. On the start if was Taves an Isane getting excellent starts with Isane taking the lead. As the race went it was the two cars ended last week with DNFs who were about to put on a show. As Isane pulled away to sizeable lead as Dexter Dvergsten passed a few cars needing a caution to close the gap on the duo of Kate Taves and Matt Taves running in 3rd and 4th. With the pack tightened back up Dvergsten got a great start running in 3rd and made the pass for 2nd and was soon making a pass for the lead. Isane showing great poise for a young driver changed his line slightly and kept his car out front for a few more laps. Dvergsten got a good run down the backstretch and made an attempt at the lead coming out of 4. Isane had to do an evasive maneuver and both cars slid towards the wall. Dvergsten was able to make the pass stick and held on for the win. Isane kept his cool and finished 2nd. Finishing in 3rd and showing the way for her younger was Kate Taves. Matt Taves finished in 4th followed by Evan Yanish in 5th.
Next up was the Street Stocks. In the group was a few cars who are entrenched in the Wissota national points race. Braden Brauer from Eyota and Ty Agen from Chippewa Falls are top 3 in National points. Jeremy Gust brought the field to green and soon had company as the battle for the lead heated up. Running the high side of the track Gust battled with John Halvorson for a while as Agen and Brauer moved up. A little further back in the back a few cars made contact leaving Gerome Berger nowhere to go. The impact punctured a hole in the radiator and a frustrated Berger had to retire to the pits for the remainder. Up front the battle for the win heated up as Gust, Brauer and Agen went at it. At the line it was Brauer with his 2nd win at the GRP followed by Agen and Gust. Greg Jose finished in 4th with John Halvorson coming home in 5th.
The final feature of the night didn’t disappoint as the Wissota Modifieds tried their hand on the great racing surface. It was Aaron Blacklance on the pole followed by Tim Thomas and Mike Tiani. Blacklance took the lead and had control of the race for most of the event. Behind him the cars of Dustin Wahl, Jordan Duray, Josh Beaulieu, and Bill Yonke were on the Move. As the laps began to wind down Wahls car began to come alive as he made passes for 3rd and 2nd place. As he closed the gap on the leader, he began to try different racing lines and made an attempt at a sprint car-like slide job for the lead with one lap to go. Unfortunately for Wahl, he slid up a little higher than expected, tried to avoid Blacklance but making contact and sending the leader off the track. Wahl knew he would go tail end and retired the 74 cars to the pits while the rest of the field went back to green. At the line it was Blacklance taking the win with Duray in 2nd, Beulieu in 3rd. Rounding out the top 5 was Thomas and Yonke.
Up next at the Park, will be the Lightning Sprints, Wissota Modifieds, Wissota MWM, Wissota Streets and Wissota Pure Stocks along with the 4 Cylinders.
