Schill sweeps the Mods at Greenbush Race Park

The afternoons overcast skies sure didn't keep the drivers away from the Greenbush Race Park, as 127 drivers checked into the pits for the annual Labor Day weekend doubleheader.

Twenty cars would take the green for the Modified feature and the only caution flew before they got one lap in. Outside polesitter Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, would take the early lead. But four laps later it would be Lance Schill of Langdon, ND, making the pass for the lead coming out of corner four. Schill held the top spot until lap 13 when Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, MB, passed for the lead in corner four. Imrie took the white flag and it looked like his race to win but Schill had other plans. Schill drove it in hard in corner three to pass Imrie and pick up his first GRP Modified sweep of the year. Imrie would finish second and Holtan third. The other heat wins went to Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, MN, and Mike Tiani of Middle River, Mn.

Polesitter Haley Lee of Starbuck, MN, would lead the 22 car Midwest Modified feature to the green flag, but before they finished the first lap outside polesitter James Lambert of Fort Francis, ON, got upside down in corner three. Lambert was ok but done for the night. On the restart Lee jumped out to the lead and was in control of the race. Lance Schill started ninth and moved to the front quickly. The second and last caution came with three to go and put everyone on the bumper of Lee. On the restart, Lee took off but Schill made the pass for the lead coming out of corner four and lead the final two laps to get the win and sweep of the evening. Lee would finish second and Justin Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, third. Jordan Wahl of Greenbush, MN, and Gary James Nelson of Ponemah, MN, picked up the other heat wins.

The Streets would send 17 of the 18 cars to take the green flag, and polesitter Kyle Dykhoff of Perham, MN, was out in front early. Doug VanMill of Bagley, MN, started seventh and about midway through the race was nipping at the back bumper of Dykhoff. VanMill got a fender on Dykhoff a couple of times but never had enough momentum to make the pass for the lead as Dykhoff went on to get his first GRP win of the year. VanMill finished second and won his heat, John Halvorson of Warren, MN, finished third and won his heat, while Brian Johanson of Edmore, ND, picked up the other heat win.

The Pure Stock feature would start 17 cars and points leader A.J. Lane of Williams would take the early lead. Lane would lead the first five laps before losing the top spot to Gary Feeleus of La Salle, MB, coming out of corner four. Feeleus would hold on to his lead even through one more caution to pull away and get his first GRP win and sweep of the year. Lane would finish second and win his heat and Chris Bouwman of Garson, MB, third. Devyn Weleski of Bemidji, MN, would pick up the other heat win.

Presley Truedson of Kennedy, MN, was in control from the beginning of the 10 car Lightning Sprint feature. Even with two early cautions Truedson got good restarts to stay in front. The last caution came on lap 11 when second place runner Alex Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, slid off corner four and rolled his machine. Truscinski walked away but his race was over. On the restart Corey Olson of Badger, MN, tried to make a run at Truedson, but it wasn't enough as Truedson went on to get her first GRP win and sweep of the year. Olson would finish second and Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, third. Truscinski would get the other heat win.

It was the first ever visit to the Race Park for the Northern Renegade non wing Sprints, and they would send 16 cars to take the green flag for their 25-lap feature. Lance Solem of Duluth, MN, and Caley Emerson of Grand Rapids, MN, lead the field to green flag. Solem would take the early lead before being passed for the top spot on lap 4 by Rob Caho Jr. of Wyoming, Mn. Caho Jr., would hold onto the top spot even through five more cautions to pick up the win. Jon Lewerer of Andover, MN, would finish second and win his heat, and Josh Braford of Grand Rapids, MN, would finish third. Solem would pick up the other heat win.

The 10 car Outlaw Mini Mod feature had somebody other than Kelly Steele winning. Michael Bryant of Mason City, Ia., made the long haul up to the Park, and made the trip payoff as he started from the pole position and lead flag to flag in the caution free race to pick up the win. Nathan Kilwine of Glenville, MN, would push Bryant the entire 15 laps but would end up finishing in the second spot. Justin Johnson of Baudette, MN, would finish third. Heat wins went to Chris Vargason of Edinburgh, ND, and Kelly Steele of International Falls, Mn.

The 4 Cylinder feature would send 13 cars to take the green flag, and Shannon George of Bagley, MN, would sit on the pole and be the early leader. George would surrender the lead to John Current of Bemidji, MN, when he pulled off with mechanical issues. Current would have to hold off challenges from Jon and Jake Geschwill of Akely, MN, and Conner Drewry of McIntosh, Mn. It would be Drewry to get by Current in corner one to take the lead and the win. Jon Geschwill would finish second and Current would finish third and win his heat. George would get the other heat win.
