Tankersley Hustles to ASCS Gulf South Region Win at Golden Triangle Raceway Park

Inside Line Promotions – BEAUMONT, Texas (July 17, 2018) – Channin Tankersley became the first repeat winner with the ASCS Gulf South Region this season when he captured his second triumph of the year last Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park.

Tankersley and the Old School Racing team swept the night by winning both a heat race and the A Main after starting third in both races.

“We started off the night pretty mediocre,” he said. “The track was a little greasy in hot laps. We had a good heat race draw and a solid heat race. We got out front and maintained. The track was super rough. It was getting rougher as the night went on.”

Tankersley’s heat race outing earned him a spot into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

“That A Main was rough,” he said. “If you were right on the tires all the way around it was smooth, but dry. Or you had to be up on the wall to keep out of the ruts.

“Dustin Gates led the first half and we kept pace with him. We got into some heavy traffic and were fortunate to make the right decision and get around him. I was trying to be smart and not hit a hole and stick it in the fence. I was just trying to be smooth and smart in traffic. For the most part we navigated through traffic pretty good.”

Tankersley took over the top spot midway through the race and he pulled away to the victory, which boosted his lead in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings to 59 points.

He will return to ASCS Gulf South Region competition this Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
