Tankersley Eyeing Texas Two-Step This Weekend with ASCS Gulf South

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (May 3, 2016) – Channin Tankersley is in the thick of a chase for the ASCS Gulf South Region championship as the region returns to action with a doubleheader this weekend.

Tankersley ranks fourth in the standings and he is only 10 points out of the lead entering events on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas.

“We’re pretty confident,” he said. “Statistically they have been two of my better tracks. We have a good car and a good motor. I’m looking forward to two solid top fives.”

Tankersley won an ASCS Gulf South Region feature at Heart O’ Texas Speedway last year and he registered two runner-up results at the track in both 2014 and 2013.

“I race pretty decent in Waco,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of good runs there. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a bullring or what, but we seem to find our way toward the podium there.”

Tankersley scored his most recent win at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in 2011.

“At the start of my career that’s where I did my best,” he said. “Now we’re just a top-five car. I don’t think the track races like it used to. You used to hammer the top or it had a bottom you could hit. It’s really hard to pass up top now because the guys come from the bottom to the top so it takes your run away exiting the corners. We’ve been working really hard to get our program up to par speed-wise so hopefully that shows this weekend.”

Tankersley has earned 11 top-10 finishes in 13 races since his last triumph at the track.
