TANKERSLEY PICKS UP ANOTHER WIN AT GTRP
Inside Line Promotions – BAYTOWN, Texas (June 20) – When he sat down and planned his season goals, Channin Tankersley highlighted the No. 3.
It was the number of victories he hoped to record and midway through the season, the 20-year-old from Highlands, Texas, is two-thirds of the way there.
“The most wins I’ve had in a season has been three,” he said. “So my goal was to at least duplicate that and I feel pretty good about getting my second win at this point in the year.”
Tankersley picked up his seventh career win and his second of the season on Friday with the ASCS Gulf South Region at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas. In fact, five of his six ASCS wins have been at the semi-banked, 1/4th-mile dirt oval.
“The key to getting around that tight track is to be versatile, where you can run the top or the bottom because you get into traffic pretty quickly,” Tankersley said.
After winning the heat race, Tankersley started fifth in the feature. However, he dropped back to eighth on the first lap before he found an ideal groove. Running high in turns one and two and low in turns three and four, Tankersley rocketed to the front and took the lead on lap 11.
“It worked out perfect because everybody was running low in turns one and two and high in three and four,” he said. “I could go anywhere I wanted.
“As good as my car was, I really have to thank all of my sponsors and partners, including Dodie and Wes Miller of Miller’s Machine & Welding, Bruce and Teresa Griffith of Griffith Truck & Equipment and Rodney and Carol of Custom Vinyl Designs.”
Tankersley wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, where an early incident sent him to the pits with a 24th-place finish in the ASCS Gulf South event.
“I was getting ready to go under a car to pass him,” Tankersley said. “He got a little sideways and I barely bumped his left rear tire with my right front. When I bumped him, it spun me out and broke the tie rod end.”
He remains sixth in the ASCS Gulf South standings.
Tankersley has the next two weekends off before returning to action with an ASCS Gulf South tripleheader – July 1 at USA Speedway in Sterlington, La., July 2 at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Miss., and July 3 at Jones Motor Speedway in Chatham, La.
