Championship Night 1!

Golden Sands Crowns 1st Champs of 2024. -Golden Sands Speedway Staff report.
Plover's Golden Sands Speedway was the battle ground for multiple classes tonight, headed by Super Late Models. 15 of the powerful cars took to the track, and Travis Volm repeated as fast qualifier. Payton Olson kept his spot up front to win heat 1, and Levon Van Der Geest put everybody behind him in heat 2 with nifty moves in a mere 12 laps. The 50 lap feature will be talked about for a while. A quick yellow on lap 9 saw the field restart with Colin Reffner up front, and it took him no time to pull in front of Braison Bennett, who looked much-improved from earlier. A few laps later another caution brought the field side-by-side, and the restart began a serious battle between Derek Gress and Levon, while Reffner stretched his lead. At about the same time, MG Gajewski got bumped out of position, and attempting to regain his racing line, got bumped again by several cars. As Reffner continued to lead, the cars on the move were Kendrick Kreyer and Levon, until Levon lost position from unjustified contact with Monte Gress, and the two ended up in the fence. At the end, the race was easy for some, hard to swallow for others. The action that took out Van Der Geest allowed Reffner to pick up a track championship via a win, and although Van Der Geest took hits from the 2 cars, he was able to drive it back to the pits. Kreyer drove another good race to 2nd, Ty Fredrickson followed, with Jevin Guralski and Travis Volm 4th and 5th.
Super Stock had a nice field, 13 cars led by Kaleb Hurless in time. Brad Scholze kept the front spot in heat 1, Jim Cormack still has speed and won heat 2. The feature saw Adam Raykowski patiently wait for his chance, and a lap 10 spin by Stephen Szymkowiak gave him the lead. By the end, Adam had a couple of racers gaining, but he led the final lap for his first feature win at Golden Sands.
4 Cylinder Stocks were one of the stronger fields of the night, Nick Kurth putting up the fastest time. Jerry Bowen won heat 1, Zach Rogers checkered heat 2. The feature saw a quick yellow on lap 1, the 17 laps of frantic 3 and 4-wide racing. Rogers and Kurth put on a show all the way through, trading the lead with Rogers on top at the end. Garrett Strachota fought his way to 2nd, and Kurth was 3rd. Jacob Hintze and Parker Wenkman were 4-5.
4 Cylinder Mods fielded 8 cars. Scott Hoeft the fastest. Cameron Kemnetz won the heat, and Hoeft made quick work of the feature, leading most of the way. Cameron Kemnetz looked like he had a shot, but a lapped car hindered his run. Shawn Kemnetz was 3rd, Joe Kuehn and Josh Wilhite were 4-5.
The age-restricted Bandoleros raced 11 cars. Bentley Thompson was the quick guy. With no heats they took straight to feature A< Thompson won it. Lincoln Johnson, Oliver Weinkauf, Paxton Benz and Harley Johnson were top 5. Feature B was a closer and more exciting show, with Oliver Weinkauf pulling off a last-lap pass to win. Thompson, Lincoln Johnson, Carter Stein, and Harley Johnson were top 5.
6 Cylinders were only 5 cars, Karl Gennett dominating the night. Fast time, heat and feature were all his.
Legends were a big bunch, 19 cars whizzing around the 1/3 mile tonight. Ayrton Brockhouse was fastest. Alex Haese won heat 1, Elliott Weiler heat 2. After a lap 1 caution this group raced hard, and Karl Genett bested a talented field. Elliot Weiler, Rose Borntreger, Ayden Brockhouse and Andrew Borntreger rounded the top 5.
Another Championship week is next Friday, August 16!
