Varin, Horning, Sears, Nye, Mahaney and Mackey take Outlaw Weekend Day 2 Wins

FULTON, NY (October 5, 2024) - Fulton Speedway’s prestigious Neivel Precision Plumbing Outlaw 200 Weekend continued with an extended Friday program, which was postponed to Saturday morning midway through the event schedule. On Friday night, six Sportsman heats helped set the field for the Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Shootout, and heat races for the Empire Super Sprints were started. Then, rain forced a 12-hour intermission, with racing resuming on Saturday morning. Two full programs were held, with Danny Varin scoring the Empire Super Sprints win, and Luke Horning taking victory with the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series.

Four qualifying events for the Jammer’s Sports Bar & Restaurant 358 Modifieds were held, with the winners punching their tickets to the Outlaw 200 feature. Qualifier #1 saw Tim Sears Jr., charge from eighth, sliding by Willy Decker Jr. for the lead with three laps remaining. The second Qualifier was claimed by Nick Nye, holding off a late charge from Peter Britten. Mike Mahaney drove from fifth to a comfortable win in Qualifier #3, while Chris Mackey had his way with the field in the fourth Qualifier. These drivers will have a chance to better their starting spots during heat races this evening, but know for sure they will compete in tonight’s feature.

The Empire Super Sprints capped their season with a wild 25-lap feature event. Sammy Reakes IV set the pace through the first half of the event, but a rapidly changing track surface forced significant passing. Midway through the event, Varin got rolling, and took the top spot from Reakes. With many lanes to race, the battle behind Varin kicked into overdrive, with Jordan Poirier and Nick Sheridan slotting into second and third. With a last-lap effort, Poirier took a swing at Varin, but at the checkered, it was Varin taking the victory.

The DIRTcar Pro Stock Series completed their penultimate points event, with a heck of a race commencing. Beau Ballard and Bret Belden spent much of the first half of the race door-to-door for the lead, while Horning picked his way through the pack from 7th to eventually join the party. Horning slipped by Belden for second at halfway, then going after Ballard. After an extensive battle, Horning rolled the middle to take the lead on lap 24, driving off to his first Series win of the season.

63 Sportsman teams piled into the pit area for the popular Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Shootout championship event. With six heat races set up by random draw, heat wins went to Gregg Carner, Martin Lessard, Shane Pecore, Riley Rogala, Hunter Hollenbeck, and Zach Sobotka. Three more consolation events helped fill the field, with those events being won by Gavin Eisele, Tony Finch II, and Austin Cooper. For the Saturday program, a pair of Last Chance Qualifiers will solidify the starting field for the 50-lap title fight.
