Heavy Rain Blasts Fulton Speedway Ending The June 1 Race Night; Decker And Manitta Win Holdover Features

FULTON, NY - A great night of racing was ahead Saturday, June 1 at the Fulton Speedway with 122 cars signed into the pits, but Mother Nature had other ideas after qualifying. A popup thunderstorm formed over the speedway dumping heavy rain that lasted over a half an hour with lightning and wind ending all racing for the night.

Midweek  week go to www.fultonspeedway.com and the speedway Facebook and Twitter pages to see the schedule for the holdover Modified, Sportsman, Late Model and Novice Sportsman features.

For everyone who bought a 50/50 ticket please hold onto them. The winner will be  drawn as a second prize the Saturday, June 8.

Two May 25 holdover features were able to race.

In the 15-lap E&V Energy Novice feature Cody Manitta took the lead at the drop of the green and looked to run away and hide from the rest of the field. Late in the race Richard Murtaugh ran down Manitta that would see a battle that came down to the checkers with Manitta winning by a half-a-car length at the checkers. Payton Talbot Riley Rogala and Ryan Dolbear finished third through fifth.

The 25-lap DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature Jimmy Moyer would grab the lead on the opening lap setting a quick pace out front until a lap 13 yellow that would see Brandon Carvey take the top spot on the restart.

On lap 15 Zach Sobotka using the topside of the speedway would pull even with Carvey exiting turn four and would have the lead by a half-a-car length at the flag stand.

The final laps would see an incredible race between Sobotka and Willy Decker Jr. with the pair swapping slide jobs back and forth and never touching with Decker winning by a slim 0.165 of a second at the checkers. Brandon Carvey, Jackson Gill and JJ Courcy finished third through fifth.

Decker related after the race that it was an intense battle and a huge relief to get his first ever Fulton Sportsman win after three-years of trying.

This Saturday, June 8 Syracuse Haulers will present a night of exciting racing featuring the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds, DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman, Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models and E&V Energy Novice Sportsman. The May 25 Sportsman feature # 2 will be run.
