Griffin Wins Outlaws 50; Winslow 2nd; Taylor 3rd.

Derrick Griffin closed out Snowball Derby week at Five Flags Speedway with a dominant victory in the Faith Chapel Outlaws’ 50-lap feature.
Griffin scored the win on Monday evening, after the Outlaw race and the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 were both pushed to Monday due to inclement weather on Saturday.
Ironically, it was a loss in August in the Outlaw division that motivated Griffin and his team going into the Snowball Derby weekend.
“We came here earlier this summer. We struggled a little bit. Timothy Watson, he laid it on us pretty good. We went back and worked on it. I think it’s safe to say we’ve gotten it a good bit better.”
Driving the James “Rawhide” Smith-owned No. 29, Griffin nearly led wire-to-wire, taking the checkered flag by more than two seconds ahead of Bubba Winslow.
“It’s fun to just be able to do this, right? He puts in so much time keeping this thing together. My wife, God bless her for sticking with me and spotting for me when we do all this stuff.”
Winslow finished second, and took the time to thank the fans who stuck out the extra day and remained in attendance even after the conclusion of the Allen Turner Snowflake 100, won by Hunter Robbins.
“First, thanks to all the fans for sticking out,” said Winslow. “I know it’s a long weekend. I appreciate them sticking it out and watching this race. It means a lot to us. Thanks to my guys, they busted their butts on this thing to get it to where it’s as fast as it is.”
Winslow was disappointed his teammate for the weekend, former NASCAR Cup Series competitor Jeremy Mayfield, did not enjoy similar success. Mayfield fell out of the race after 31 laps and officially finished 16th. He hopes future races will prove more successful for the pairing.
“It was real fun working with Jeremy. He’s a good guy, super down-to-earth. I don’t know where he finished. I wish he could have been up here with us, but we’ll keep chipping away at it and hopefully he’ll be up here before too long, too.”
Carter Taylor finished third. Jay Jay Day finished fourth, but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Gary Goodwin and Timothy Watson rounded out the top five in the official running order.
