California Driver Jeremy Doss Set To Run the Twin Blizzards

In 2021, California ace driver Jeremy Doss and his race team decided to put all the focus of their Super Late Model program on the goal of winning the Snowball Derby. To accomplish this, they circled the key races that make up the ‘Road to the Snowball Derby’, the Deep South South Cranes Blizzard Series, the four Super Late Model races run during the racing season at the Derby’s home, Five Flags Speedway.
Choosing to compete in both races, Doss came out of the gate strong with a third-place finish at Five Flags, followed by a fourth-place finish at Montgomery. In one more week, Doss and the No. 75 camp will make their second cross-country trip east of 2021, with another Friday-Saturday double, only this time Five Flags Speedway will play host with 100-lap features on each night.
With a strong outing in June, Doss doesn’t see why he can’t climb the final two steps to the top of the podium.
Back on the West Coast, the campaign for Doss has been almost nothing but domination. He was won five out six events with the SPEARS SRL Pro Late Model Series and four out of six races on the SPEARS Manufacturing Modified Series present by Lucas Oil. Before he heads east, Doss’ will compete with both racecars this Saturday at Irwindale Speedway near Los Angeles. (Jeremy won the Pro Late Model and Modified features in Irwindale).
“We should have a good run, we’ve won almost every race in the Pro Late Model and had some wins in the Modified as well. We got some practice today. You can never win enough, so I think we’ll have a good showing.�
With the pressure of not having to prepare for two separate race tracks in one week, the former KDDP Kulwicki Cup champion is confident that if he can stay out of trouble, there’s a good chance of finally getting that first Five Flags victory and getting some valuable confidence for the Snowball Derby.
“You want to keep the car clean every race anyways, but you really have to think about that in the first race with doubleheader. One thing I found last time was having to switch the setup on the car over to the different track, which was the biggest struggle, but we don’t have to worry about that now. I think we’re going to it full ahead this time around.�
Winning on its own is almost always incentive enough for a driver to go above and beyond, but with a high race purse, including $40,000 between the guaranteed money and bonus going to any driver who can sweep the weekend, Doss is not afraid to go for the top spot should he be in a position to go for it.
“It’s super exciting and it helps teams like ours who come a long way, if we’re able to win both that would be a really big deal. I think it’s going to attract a lot of different drivers once again. Those Blizzard races already get some of the best drivers, I’m looking forward to taking them on, and going for a pair of wins.�
Some drivers have debated over the years just how much of a feel the Blizzard Series can give a race team to properly prepare for the Snowball Derby. But following June’s Blizzard Opener, Doss feels that this season’s Series is about as close as you can get from a competition stand point.
“It really does, we were looking at qualifying from the Derby last year versus the race last month, I think the Derby was 0.25 seconds from first to thirtieth, and last month was 0.257. So basically the Derby minus three or four cars. To go run Top 5 was a confidence booster for me team and I, and hopefully we can keep up the solid runs all the way up to the Derby in December.�
