Outlaws Driver Henderson Scores First Career Win at 5 Flags; Boyett Back on Top for Pro Trucks

Cameron Henderson wasn’t just looking for his first career win Friday night at Five Flags Speedway.
The Dothan, Ala., driver was just hoping to find clean air for the first time at the famed half-mile asphalt oval. Henderson passed all his goals with flying colors Friday, leading flag-to-flag and capturing the 35-lap Faith Chapel Outlaws feature.
Defending Outlaws track champion Bubba Winslow finished second and Timothy Watson notched his third podium finish in as many races.
“We’ve been trying for a couple years now to get a win here,� Henderson said. “This is a big one. To beat Bubba Winslow—this is his house—it just feels good to beat these guys because I know how good they are.�
Henderson overcame a couple of cautions and plenty of lapped traffic in the 16-car field to become the fourth different Faith Chapel Outlaws winner this season.
He, Winslow, and Watson broke away from the field around the midway point before the first yellow came out just eight laps from the checkered flag.
Henderson, however, handled that and another restart masterfully en route to the milestone victory.
Five Flags’ annual children’s bicycle races also provided several memorable wins for three youngsters Friday night. JJ (last name unavailable) won the 5-and-under division; Donovan Coles won the 6-to-9 age group; and Dylan LuKars took home the win for the 10-12 class as more than 60 kids competed.
Proxy Equipment Pro Trucks
After some begging and pleading—and, perhaps, some bickering— with truck owner Gerald Boyd, Logan Boyett finally had the truck Friday night at Five Flags Speedway that he has wanted for a while.
Boyett, who won the 2018 Pro Trucks track championship, scored his first win in two years Friday after dominating the Proxy Equipment Pro Trucks 30-lap feature.
“We’ve literally had to change almost everything on this truck,� Boyett said. “We’ve been fighting each other on what to do with this thing. It wasn’t perfect, but we’re getting it close to where we need it.
“We’ve been snake bit by mechanical problems. It hasn’t been because a lack of preparation, but just freak, stupid things. I was just waiting for something else to go wrong.�
Thankfully, nothing did Friday.
Thirteen-year-old Gavin Graham came away with runner-up honors and his teammate, Hunter Johnson, rounded out the podium in third.
The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen
The scene in Victory Lane won’t soon be forgotten.
Fresh off his first career win in The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen division, teenager Maddox Langham couldn’t event make it out of the window net before big brother, Jonathan Langham, was pulling him out to celebrate.
Jonathan Langham wrapped his kid brother in a bear hug before the rest of the Langham family and friends mobbed the youngster.
“I have to thank my dad (Howard Langham) for busting his butt all week to get me ready for this race,� Maddox said.
Jim Pokrant finished second and the aforementioned Jonathan Langham scored a third-place finish.
“That third place doesn’t mean anything to me,� an emotional Jonathan Langham said. That right there (pointing at Maddox) makes it all worth it.�
Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks
The Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks never disappoint.
The popular series at Five Flags Speedway always puts on a fantastic show, and Friday night at the famed half-mile asphalt oval was no exception.
Nose-to-tail racing highlighted the 20-lap feature. When the beating and banging finally ended, it was Alabama’s Robert Loper notching his third win of 2021.
His teammate, Cameron Leytham, finished second and Parker McDonald rallied to collect third for his fourth podium finish of the season.
“That was a helluva race,� Loper said. “I had a blast. Me and Caleb (Burkett) raced hard, and it’s fun to put on a show for the crowd. There’s a lotta talent in this class. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.�
Burkett led early, running an aggressive line to slide around McDonald and find clean air. The top five cars were on each other’s bumper for the first half of the race as they jockeyed for position.
Loper got by Burkett on Lap 13 and withstood all challengers to seal the victory.
